For today’s Tech-Talk we are looking at water resistant versus waterproof materials. Many clients are choosing waterproof and water resilient floorings (and with the average out of pocket expense – after insurance – for water damage exceeding an average of $5k why wouldn’t you!), and we think it is important to know the difference – it is really very simple! Water RESISTANT flooring protects the top and sides of the material, which will allow the product to be exposed to moisture for short periods of time without damage. Water PROOF flooring has protection for the bottom as well, which protects against any moisture coming up from the subfloor, along with anything sitting on top. These products can be submerged for exceedingly long periods of time without showing any kind of damage. Take a look at where you will be placing your flooring, and how the area will be used, in order to make the best decision!

In today’s tips and tricks we are talking about flooring installation – the scary part of putting in the new designer style of your dreams! If you are EVER thinking of doing some new flooring keep this handy… it will make your installation as perfect as your brand new floor! Contact us any time with any additional questions or concerns you may have about flooring installation – and go find your style!

1) Installations can cause vibration. It is a good idea to remove anything hanging on the walls, or anything sitting on a delicate balance, in the area of the installation.
2) Installers will, upon request, move your furniture and belongings in order to do the installation. If you have having the installers move your things please make sure that the items are cleared and emptied prior to the arrival of the installer. If you are going to move your own items please do so, also, before the installer arrives. Otherwise you will just be paying them to stand around!
3) Any closet area receiving flooring should not only be cleared of items on the floor itself, but should also be cleared of any hanging items to avoid any kind of accident during the installation.
4) Remember that a good cleaning is likely to be required following your installation, even on the most perfect of jobs!
5) Sometimes, when we get the original floor off, we see things that need to be addressed with the subfloor before the new floor can be installed. It is important to stay in communication, especially if you are removing your own flooring before the installation. We want to make sure the subfloor is in the adequate condition to install the new flooring flawlessly!
