Hello, Everyone!

I'm back home this week and back to it!

Last week I designed Gail's quilt, but the timing for her just isn't working out. Please pray for her especially this week. Her husband isn't expected to last through the week.

I didn't get a chance to work on the re-design for the special project for Cynthia. I'll make it a priority this week to get that designed, along with finishing Susan's longarm quilting order and working on Elizabeth's quilt.

Next week, I'll be finishing Elizabeth's quilt and starting on Beth's quilt. And, hopefully, I'll be able to start on Cynthia's re-designed project at that time.

Last week with my dad was a lot more than I expected. Since he can't drive, I drove him everywhere he needed to go. If you know my dad, you'd understand just how stressful that was. However, we were able to laugh about it later -- always good medicine.

We have 2 months left to try and get him to be independent again. My sister is a school teacher and will need to be back at school around the first week of August. He has a wound (other than his stump) that needs to heal and he needs to be able to have the hand controls installed on his vehicle for him to be able to drive again. If we can accomplish this, then I think we'll be fine to resume normal life to some degree.

As of now, I'm scheduled to go back to Missouri the week of June 15th and the week of July 6th.

Sincerely & gratefully,

Here are 2 quilts that were finished last week. The first is for a Wofford grad (as if you couldn't tell). It was ordered by his fiancé as a surprise for his graduation.

The second is a quilt for a high school grad who was very picky about her color choices. She wanted to be sure everything blended together nicely, so she chose a creamy neutral.

This is a quilt that was made by my sister Dana. It is made up of just the collars & cuffs of men's shirts. This is her Trail Mix quilt. I finished it using a "Button Up" Quilting stitch. She'll finish the binding on her own. It is basically a twin size quilt.

Hello, Everyone!

I'm in Missouri this week, so I won't be getting any sewing done. However, I do have Gail's quilt to design and edits to Cynthia's project to make.

Last week I was able to finish Carson's surprise graduation quilt for her fiancé, as well as, Scott's quilt for her daughter's graduation. I've attached the photos below so you can see them. They'll also be posted on my social media pages, if you'd like to see more of them and be able to zoom in for the details. While I was sewing on these 2 quilts, I was able to also quilt a couple of my sister's quilts.

When I return, I'll be working on Elizabeth's quilt, then Beth's quilt. Elizabeth's might take all week to work on since it's a king size quilt with lots of "extras" to work with. So Beth's might get started the week after next.

Next in line will be Gail and Cynthia for now.

Over the next several months, I'll be back and forth to Missouri helping my sister take care of my dad. As most of you know, he had amputation surgery in early April. Thankfully, my sister had enough leave time saved up (school teacher) to take off the rest of the school year. However, she's married and lives 2 hours away. She's made the sacrifice to move in with my dad until we can get him back on his feet and independent once again. He won't even get his prosthetic until 6 months out (around October). So, until then (and maybe longer), we'll be making sure he's taken care of and pushing him to be more independent each step of the way.

Thank you all for being so patient with me during this time. We always expect we'll take care of our parents one day. But we're never prepared for it when it happens.

With gratefulness,

Hello, Everyone!

Last week I was able to finish Bethany's baby quilt (photo below) and the special project I made for Cynthia. Although Cynthia's project might take a few more tweaks, it is basically finished. I was also able to get a start on Carson's quilt.

This week my plan is to finish Carson's quilt and Scott's quilt. I'll hopefully get started on Elizabeth's quilt, but I doubt very seriously that it will get finished this week.

Elizabeth, I apologize that yours won't be finished before you leave for the graduation celebration next week. I'll be back in Missouri next week taking care of my Dad and giving my sister a respite away from caring for my dad to spend with her husband. The good news is that my dad is at home now, but he is in a wheelchair and cannot drive. I'll be able to work on your t-shirts and things while I'm there, and might get some sewing done. However, my longarm quilting machine is here. So it will need to wait until l return to get finished.

I'm thankful and grateful to you all for being so patient and kind during this ordeal with my dad. We are always expectant of caring for our parents as they age, but not necessarily emotionally ready for it when it happens. Since I run a business, it doesn't just impact me and my family. It also impacts all of my clients.

Gratefully,
Laura Rogers

Ever Feel Like You Need More Time?

First of all, I want to send my apologies to Cynthia & Bethany. I didn't get a chance to get to your projects last week.

Before I even landed, the Pastor had me running to get things for his wife's surprise birthday party that he threw together last minute. As y'all know, my husband and I are part of the ministry team at our church -- my husband is the associate pastor. Tuesday evening I received a phone call from Pastor asking if I would be able to help him when I returned to get things together for a surprise birthday party he wanted to throw for his wife. He stated that I would be the only one available to help him pull this off. To make a long story short, I landed Wednesday night at 9:30. Had BNI meetings Thursday 10:00-1:30, went shopping for birthday decorations, cooked dinner, and went to church. I had an early-morning breakfast meeting Friday (7:30-9:30), appointment at the VA, and then went grocery shopping (and more decorations) for the birthday party. By the time I got home, it was time to start dinner and then go to prayer meeting at church.

Saturday was the birthday party (it was a success, btw). It was at their house, so I had to wait until he could get her away on a ruse before I could go over and start decorating before they arrived back home. I ended up also going to the store to pick up the cake and getting the ingredients to make some punch (last-minute ask). By the time I was able to get to their house, I only had 1 hour to get things ready to include putting up all the decorations he wanted me to get.

Needless to say, I'm really tired today! I'm getting some laundry done and will be finishing Bethany's quilt. I picked up the embroidery Thursday while I was running around town. I'll get that put into the backing of the quilt and will get that quilted today. I'll work on Cynthia's project and try to have that finished by tomorrow sometime.

Next up is Carson's quilt for her fiancé, Scott's quilt for her daughter, Elizabeth's quilt for her daughter, and Beth's quilt in honor of her father.

I'll be traveling once a month back to Missouri to give my sister a few days of respite to be with her husband. She is staying with my dad who lives 2 hours away from where she lives with her husband. Thankfully, she had enough leave time with the school district so she can be with my dad during this new phase of life that he's learning. He's doing well, but it is an uphill climb that will require a lot of work on his part. We're hoping his stubbornness will kick in (Japanese & a Viet Nam Marine) and he'll be independent again.

I've been through a lot over these past few weeks. The day before I left to be with my dad & sister, my step-sister passed. Her wishes were for no funeral and to be cremated. We are all saddened by this, as you can guess. Now she is with both her mom and dad who passed before her. That is a consolation.

I'm ever so grateful for your patience during this time. I feel a little frazzled to say the least. However, God is seeing me through. I'm not stressing over things I can't control and taking it one day at a time with it all. He knows what He's doing through all of this. I'll continue to trust Him to be in control for me.

Sincerely & Gratefully,

Happy Sunday, Everyone!

This past week, I was able to start on Cynthia's project, but didn't get to finish it before leaving for my dad's in Springfield, MO. I'll be in Springfield through Wednesday afternoon, and should be home late that evening.

While at my dad's, I was able to design 3 quilts. I'm still awaiting deposits so I can get that fabric ordered. If I can get that ordered before the end of the week, then I should be able to start these quilts when they're up in the queue.

When I return, I'll be finishing Cynthia's and Bethany's orders. Next up is Carson's quilt that will be started next week. Then Elizabeth, Beth, and Scott's quilts can get started (as long as I have the fabric in).

Update on Dad

My dad's surgery went well. While he was recovering in the hospital, it was hard for him to stand up on the one leg without losing his balance. He's been in rehab for a couple days and has already improved tremendously. He's able to move himself into a wheelchair almost by himself and move to the toilet from the wheelchair. As you can guess, this is a huge stepping stone.

The rehab center he is in is scheduling Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) for 3 hours each day. They've been scheduling him an hour at a time with each in the morning, with 30 minutes of each later in the day. As of now, they are only planning on keeping him for 2 weeks. They'll do an evaluation of his progress each week to determine if he needs to stay a little shorter or longer.

Once he returns home, Dana (my sister) will be taking care of him and helping where she's needed. I'll be traveling back at least once each month to give her a respite to get back home to her husband for a bit.

Our goal is to have him ready for a prosthetic in about 6 months. More therapy will give him the strength and balance to be able to walk again and gain back his independence.

He's Japanese and a Marine, so we're expecting stubbornness and grit to drive him to the finish line! So far, so good!

This has been a tough couple weeks. The day before I left for Dad's, my stepsister passed. She had been fighting health issues in the hospital for about a month and was on the liver transplant list. Just when she was scheduled for the transplant, her body gave out. She was the same age as me, so that really hit home.

Thank you all for being so patient with me. I'm beyond grateful and truly appreciate it.

Until next week....

Hello, Everyone!

Last week Andrea's quilt was finished. I was also able to almost finish Bethany's baby quilt. I have some yo-yos pinned onto the border ready to sew. I'm also waiting for some embroidery to be finished that she ordered for her quilt. That will be finished this week.

However, my dad had amputation surgery this past Thursday. So I'll be heading to Missouri tomorrow through Saturday to help my sister. She's been with him for about a week and a half and has taken off work to do this. She's a middle school teacher, so this is a lot for her teacher brain.

That being said, I won't be getting very much sewing done this week. I'll be taking some design work with me, though. I have Beth's, Elizabeth's, and will have Scott's to take with me.

When I come back next week, I'll be finishing Bethany's quilt and starting Carson's quilt. Next in line from there are Beth, Elizabeth, and Scott. I'll get these fabrics ordered once I have the designs approved and deposits all collected (even while I'm away this week). I should have all the fabric in by the time I need to get started on them. I already have the fabric for Carson's quilt, so it is waiting on me to get back from Missouri.

Y'all, please pray for my dad. God knows the full picture of what we're dealing with. It's emotionally difficult, even though I'm pretty sure my dad is strong enough to get through this. He's Japanese and he's a US Marine. Stubbornness is in**ed with a double dose! This will be a long uphill road to climb for him to get back to being as independent as he was before.

And, I apologize for this interruption of your orders. One of these days I'll be able to afford to hire an assistant who can take over making the quilts while I step away.

Thank you for your patience. I'm forever grateful.
