unlacquered brass is one of those finishes people either love or get nervous about. and i get it. it’s not going to stay shiny and perfect.

that’s the whole point.

it lives. it darkens, it warms up, it picks up the marks of being touched every single day. in a year it looks nothing like the day we installed it, and that’s exactly why we keep specifying it.

if you want it to stay bright you can polish it back. if you want the patina, you just let it happen. there’s no wrong answer.

chicago for NeoCon and Fulton Market Design Days and it did not disappoint. spent time in the showrooms, picked up a few things at Jayson Home and LE LABO Fragrances, had the best dinners at A BALKAN CUISINE RESTAURANT and Alla Vita and stayed at Chicago Athletic Association which was design inspo itself!

limewash moves, roman clay is buttery, microcement can get wet

the cheat sheet:

limewash → soft, chalky, lots of movement. best for walls you want depth on
roman clay → smooth, troweled, a little more polished
microcement → sealed and waterproof. showers, floors, the hardworking spots

walnut vanity is custom and the pulls are stone to tie in the counters. backlit mirror because no one should be hit with overhead light at 5am.

Continuing through the lower level at Asbury - the media room. Dark moody limewash, custom viola marble sconces, and a big bar area that feels equal parts cozy and elevated. It has that quiet luxury feel without trying too hard.
