Such, a beautiful bonus to our hometown!
The Colorado River is a major artery for La Grange. It’s a different beast from the more famous one out west that carves the Grand Canyon.
This one starts in the Llano Estacado region of West Texas and flows southeast for about 862 miles, eventually emptying into the Gulf of Mexico at Matagorda Bay.
It’s entirely within Texas and has been a lifeline for agriculture, cities, and industry in the state.
Major cities like Austin sit along its banks, and it’s dammed in several places—think Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis—for water supply and power.
If you thought how I-10 interacts with it, the highway does cross the Colorado near Columbus, about 70 miles west of Houston.
It’s a pretty straightforward bridge crossing, nothing too dramatic, but it’s a key spot along the route.💕💕💕
