Backyard Living Backyard Living was born from Jeff Johnson’s lifelong love of building. As a boy, Jeff learned his trade alongside his grandfathers.

Inspired by his Grandpa Johnson’s love of birdhouses, Jeff began building his own unique birdhouses and other housewares. He uses reclaimed wood, including barn wood from the family farm in southern Ohio, giving his pieces a locally sourced, eco-friendly touch. Jeff adorns many of the items with local antiques and found objects, making your purchase truly one-of-a kind. The Johnson family is proud of their Ohio heritage and hopes to bring a little piece of Ohio into your heart and home.

Here's a totally rebuilt front porch. Took out all the floor joists that were rotted and started all over with all new floor Joyce's and used a top sealant on top of the joists that helps with the moisture. Also there was no support on the corner columns so I put in 4x4 inside the columns. I added aluminum spindles and PVC top rails and we went with a Spiced Rum Trex decking. To add more style to the front porch I mitered every corner for a picture frame look. I also put PVC skirting around the deck so no rotting will happen for the future.

So I had just a little time in-between jobs to rebuild our deck and because of the new hot tub. I put in all new 2x10's floor joists to withhold the weight of a roof that I will add later. We went with Trex so it is water friendly.
