A little drama never hurt a kitchen. šŸ˜

Who says a white kitchen has to play it safe?

We brought the attitude with dramatic black wood-look tile flooring, warmed things up with a sophisticated greige island, and added just enough brushed brass to make the whole space feel a little extra. ✨

And because pretty without practical is just… pretty, we designed shallow-depth cabinetry around the eat-in dining area. All the storage, none of the bulky nonsense.

Classic? Absolutely. Boring? Not on my watch. 😜

Who says you can’t design an entire kitchen around a collection of green milk glass? Certainly not me. šŸ’š

And that’s exactly how this project started!

Our client had a beautiful collection of green milk glass that she wanted to show off. And frankly, when you have a collection this pretty, hiding it behind solid cabinet doors would be a crime.

So we designed a gorgeous natural walnut hutch to give it the spotlight it deserved. Then we carried that walnut into the island and floating shelves to add warmth and a little attitude to the soft greige cabinetry.

But don’t let the pretty fool you. This kitchen WORKS.

Our client is a serious cook who loves to entertain, so every inch had to earn its keep.

The island seats four and features a dedicated prep sink with a thick mitered countertop at a different working height. We incorporated built-in Thermador appliances to keep projections to a minimum because, believe it or not, people actually need room to WALK around their kitchens. Shocking, I know. šŸ™„

The result is a kitchen that’s warm, functional, full of personality, and designed around something our client truly loves.

Because a great kitchen shouldn’t just look like it belongs in a magazine. It should look like it belongs to YOU.

And if it happens to look magazine-worthy, well… I won’t apologize for that. šŸ˜‰

I love a good ā€œafterā€ photo…but the after is really only part of the story.

This kitchen started with a wall separating it from the dining room and a layout that wasn’t taking advantage of the space—or that beautiful backyard view.

So we opened it up.

The dark-stained herringbone floors became the foundation, with creamy gray and soft white cabinetry, classic finishes, polished nickel, a farmhouse sink in the island, and a panel-ready refrigerator tucked into its own area surrounded by additional storage.

Because the main kitchen is essentially a galley, every inch had to work. We added a fully functional pantry with rollouts, created additional storage around the refrigerator, and positioned the range toward the backyard with a ceiling-mounted hood so that view stayed exactly where it belonged. šŸ¤

But here’s the part I want to start showing more of…

Swipe past the finished photos and you’ll see where we started AND the photorealistic renderings we created before any of this existed.

That middle step is one of my favorite parts of the process.

It’s one thing to look at cabinet samples, countertops, floor stains and plumbing finishes sitting on a table. It’s another thing entirely to actually SEE your future kitchen before you start investing in all of those decisions.

The finished photographs are beautiful.

But seeing the before → the rendering → the reality?

That’s where you really get to see the design come to life. ✨ #

This one is going to be GOOD. ✨

These are the photorealistic renderings we just presented to our client for a bathroom renovation currently in the works—and thankfully, she’s as excited about it as we are. Because nothing makes a designer happier than hearing, ā€œI LOVE IT.ā€ before construction even begins. šŸ˜‚

We’re bringing in rich walnut cabinetry (because apparently I’m physically incapable of saying no to beautiful walnut), deep navy tile, gorgeous stone, and one of my favorite details: mixed metals. Polished gunmetal will play against warm brushed brass accents for that collected, layered look that keeps a space from feeling too perfectly matched.

And can we talk about that shower? The tiled bench, niche, glass, lighting… there’s a lot happening here, but it all plays very nicely together.

Now comes the fun part—watching the rendering become REALITY.

Stay tuned for the reality reveal. I cannot wait to show you how closely we bring this one to life. šŸ‘€āœØ

White kitchens aren’t boring. Boring white kitchens are boring. šŸ˜‰

There. I said it.

This kitchen started with soft white cabinetry and a slim Shaker door, but I had absolutely no intention of letting it become another sea of white cabinets with a pretty countertop.

The walnut changed everything.

We carried that warmth into the details—including a walnut countertop with a waterfall side—and let it play against the oak floors, brass hardware and clean cabinetry. There’s a little mid-century influence happening here, but not so much that you expect Don Draper to walk in and make himself a drink. šŸ˜‚

And then there’s the blue-gray quartzite.

Honestly, it’s ridiculous. The blues, grays, warm gold veining and movement are the kind of thing manufactured stone keeps trying very hard to imitate. Nature remains annoyingly good at her job.

Even the backsplash has a secret. It looks like fluted marble, but it’s actually porcelain—because I love beautiful materials, but I also enjoy not designing things my clients will curse me for every time they cook.

The whole kitchen is an exercise in contrast: crisp but warm, refined but relaxed, modern with a little mid-century soul.

White kitchen? Technically.

Basic? Not remotely. Last pic is the before!!!!

My client texted me this weekend after having a house full of friends over.

Everyone was going crazy over the renovation. People were asking who designed it and requesting my information—and he took the time afterward to tell me how much he loves his home.

That made my weekend.

Because I can obsess over the walnut details, the skinny Shaker cabinetry, the mid-century influences, the lighting, that ridiculous quartzite and approximately 4,872 other tiny decisions… šŸ˜‚

But ultimately, I’m designing a place where people are going to live.

Where friends gather around the table. Someone makes a drink at the bar. Everyone ends up hanging out in the kitchen—because somehow, they always do.

A beautiful photograph is wonderful.

A client still excited about his kitchen when it’s full of people? That’s the good stuff.

And if a few of those people happen to ask for my number… well, I’m not complaining. šŸ˜‰šŸ¤Ž

A little proud moment over here. šŸ’•

There’s something pretty special about opening Kitchen & Bath Design News and seeing one of my projects featured as the image representing Brighton Cabinetry.

Out of all the beautiful kitchens featuring their cabinetry, Brighton chose a Merri Interiors kitchen to showcase their brand—and I’m incredibly proud of that.

I’ve worked in this industry for a long time, but moments like this never get old. Seeing my design—and my name—in print, representing a cabinetry line I’ve specified for my clients, is a pretty great reminder that the details, the experience, and all those hours obsessing over every inch really do matter.

Thank you, Brighton Cabinetry, for choosing my work. And thank you, Kitchen & Bath Design News, for the feature. ā¤ļø

Apparently my kitchen is officially a model now. šŸ˜‰. https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=869247&p=55&view=issueViewer
