The characters come to life within us, thriving on our emotions, allowing us to live a million different lives. As story lovers, our greatest desire is to be transported to our favorite fictions again and again, and that is the goal of Get Fictional. The sense of smell is a po

werful thing, and it goes hand in hand with memories and emotions, so we strive to bring those fictional worlds to light with our soy candles.

The plague moved unseen from house to house, leaving fever, swollen bodies, and death in its wake. In the seventeenth century, the strange figure of the plague doctor emerged—covered from head to toe, his face hidden behind a beaked mask stuffed with aromatic herbs believed to guard against corrupted air.
He walked among the infected, tending the living while surrounded by the dead, his long beak becoming an unmistakable sight in plague-stricken streets.

From the Haunted Histories Collection, Plague Doctor bath bombs are scented with smoky woods, patchouli, & floral undertones. His beak is filled with dried lavender.

The Summerween Book Club is giving way to the Grim Readers 💀. This is a no-pressure, horror book club that includes candles and, if you like, some great beer.

If you order your book through me (check the EVENTS tab on my website), you receive a complimentary, exclusive 4oz custom soy candle to light while you read. Again, no pressure though! This is just to bring horror lovers together, whether you participate in person when we meet at B52 Brewing (thank YOU to the amazing Jae Mazer), discuss through the FB group, or simply just read along with us silently. I’ve met many people who want to be a part of it but don’t want to socialize, and that’s totally fine! You are more than welcome 🖤.

September’s book is The Dorians by Nick Cutter 🪼. I have some candles left for preorder, and they will be ready by this weekend for pickup or shipping, so grab them while you can! If you just want the book, swing by and pull it off the shelf 💀.

“On a remote island in the Canadian wilderness, five elderly volunteers from different walks of life are given a tantalizing offer: to stall their biological clocks or even reverse them, restoring their lost youth. The chance to put death on pause—forever, perhaps. The remarkable secret lies in the high-tech harnessing of an ancient and extraordinary biological agent…one with no conscience, yet possessed with a single-minded purpose that has helped it persist for eons: the will to survive. The dark heart of unbridled human ambition finds its apex in an unholy experiment that now tests the limits of both creator and subject, eclipsing all bounds of morality and sanity….”

The BER months are mere days away, and here’s some amazing horror fiction that’s coming to Get Fictional in September {which is basically Halloween Eve, in my opinion}.

Which one are you picking up?

👀The Nudge by Joseph Fink: A wounded man checks into a remote hotel & recounts how an evil, unseen force infiltrated his marriage, pushing the people around him toward violence. Can he ever escape it?

👹Want by Micah Smith: A woman is desperate to redeem her marketing career, and calls on a strange, dark force that can bend a person’s will with just one word… It’s a power she’d kill for, if it doesn’t kill her first. {For fans of Grady Hendrix & Joe Hill}

🍰Kiss Slay Replay by Rachel Harrison: At her BFF’s wedding, Willa is murdered by a masked killer only to wake up and discover she’s in a bloody time loop that brings new horrors and another chance to survive.

🔪She’s a Doll by Barbara Truelove: After Lucy is murdered, her spirit possesses an antique doll & teams up with an unlikely ally to exact revenge on her killer.

🎃All Hallows Eve edited by Ellen Datlow: An anthology that focus on Halloween horror, drawing from Samhain traditions around the world.

💀The Crone by Keith Rosson: When the son of a drug gang boss is murdered, an addicted ex-detective is offered an opportunity to clear his debts by solving the case, but the investigation leads him back to his missing daughter and an ancient evil lurking in the woods.

🏚️Worry Box by Chris Panatier: When a family moves into their dream house with their troubled foster daughter, her terrifying intrusive thoughts begin to blur with the house’s horrifying secrets.

💍Trad Wife by Sarah Langan: A journalist visits a perfect trad-wife influencer’s isolated farm only to find something deeply sinister lurking beneath the family’s idyllic facade.

🧛🏻‍♂️Nightjars by Michael Wehunt: Memento meets Dracula in this heart-thudding, unpredictable, and beautifully crafted novel of a man exposed for crimes he doesn’t remember committing, and the monsters that dwell at the heart of us all.
