1974 Thomasville update...
This little beauty has been tucked away in the corner of the shop collecting dust for over a year and is finally getting some love. I need to make some more space for a large commission piece coming in soon.

The plan is for a Mocha top, drawer faces and accent trim and a blossom white base. Two sides of the original wrap trim were missing, so I need to source an elegant replacement. I do have the original brass feet caps and drawer pulls, so that is a plus not having to source those. I will likely make some changes to the corbels near each of the legs, but we will see.

So far, the tabletop is stained and has fist coat of semi-gloss oilbased polyurethane is curing.

Drexel Mahogany table set was completed and delivered today to a very happy customer.

The project took a lot of hours to complete, either because of the hand sanding needed on the veneer or cure time for glue and finishes. Worth it!

We also replaced the fabric and padding on all of the chairs and they turned out great.

Thanks to Jami Marie Domenico for allowing us to be a part of this journey.

Got this nightmare from a follower and it was in rough shape; blush spots, failed stain, failed finish, failed paint, missing hardware and chair pads stuck to seats. I spent some time on it this past week or two, while waiting on other projects and it turned out pretty nice.

I decided to keep the black base and after some serious cleaning, sanding and priming, she was ready for a fresh coat.

I passionately hated the orange on the tabletop and seat bottoms, so off it came...hahaha. After a few days of sanding, it was ready for two coats of Special Walnut oil based penitrating stain and finished off with many, many coats of satin oil-based polyurethane.

I think it turned out lovely in the end.

Drexel Mahogany restore update...

The base repair was a bit of a pain since I needed to undo the previous failed repairs. Removing failed epoxy, failed pva glue, banding straps and even silicone...yes I said silicone. Once I got to the heart of the issue I saw the dowels had broken off and needed replacing. Replaced the 3/4" dowels and used Titebond ultimate to secure the legs to the pedestal. Also as added support, I added a 3" pocket screw to each leg.

The table top was a bit simpler, but took much longer to complete because it is a 3/32" veneer, so extra care was needed. We hand scraped, and used a diluted acetone to remove the finish and the neutralized the acetone. Then on to the hand sanding with 180 and then 220 for a smooth finish, which took almost a week. Coloring was an event that included layered staining of Red Mahogany and Mocha stains and some well placed toner from Mohawk. We even refinished the bottom sides of each drop leaf because they are visible when down. There are still some blemishes remaining which displays the history of this set, but it looks great.

Now onto the chairs, which will be fun too.

We are currently working on a full restoration of this beautiful mahogany Drexel Heritage set for a new client Jami Marie Domenico and it is already coming along nicely.

As you can see in the photos, there is plenty of work to be done...
- table structure issues
- chair structure issues
- blush spots
- damage from normal wear and tear

Along with the above, we will be slightly changing the color to a more brown tone.

There is some history here and we are grateful to be a part of the story.

These items were collecting dust, so I took the opportunity to refinish them while awaiting another project. Now they are looking for a new home.

Going from an existing black coating to another finish is always a challenge, but I think they turned out well.

29" and finished in smokey beige enamel, jacobean stain and satin polyurethane for a durable finish.

Wanted to show a newly built accent table I made from pieces I had laying around the shop.
It turns out you can get creative when waiting on another project to dry, whether it is glue or finishes.

To be honest, the geometry we all learn in high school but rarely use, came into play here in a big way. It was worth it because it turned out really cute.
