When the war in Ukraine broke out, millions of people fled their country, including hundreds of thousands of children fleeing to countries around Europe and the United States.

About a month and a half after the war broke out and Denmark started to experience Ukrainian children needing integration into Danish schools, the then 12-year-old artist Olivia Schmitt was among the Danish American students who met the Ukrainian students first-hand while she was in Denmark.

To express the sufferings of the innocent and casualties of war, Olivia Schmitt painted what has become known as "Hands for Ukraine / Blood Hands of Ukraine", which can now be seen at
