Still feeling some remnants of pandemic isolation, last fall I set out to create what I called “The OG’s Weekly Gallery Breakfast Experiment.” I scheduled a series of breakfast gatherings at my home and haphazardly started sending out invites to contacts (if you didn’t get one, rest assured it is due to my disorganization and nothing personal!)
In a short time, I received no less than 60 RSVPS, confirming I was not the only one longing to connect through this simple, no-agenda format. The enthusiasm was palpable.
Each one took on a “theme” of its own, from art & design professionals to life-long Miamians involved in social impact initiatives. I was reminded of how meaningful the act of breaking bread can truly feel, and how many inspiring people I have the good fortune to know.
Guests left having connected with new faces or an entire contingency of new fans for endeavors. I gained confidence in my own ability to be a convener and hostess, comfortable inviting people into my own cultivated space.
New year, new format.
Weekly events are a lot to sustain, but I don’t want to abandon the ritual, so I will be hosting monthly breakfasts this season. These will each have a co-host who will direct an activity for all attendees, in addition to conversations over food and drink.
The first is scheduled for February 13th and will be co-hosted by Amy Cozette. Her company, Cozy Arts creates products that bring thoughtfulness and intentionality to the forefront of everyday life by encouraging acts of love, one craft, one letter, one task at a time. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, a day I grew up celebrating as “friendship day,” we will be crafting paper gifts to share. I hope you’ll join us!
