Do you know why "L" is first in the LGBTQIA+ acronym?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the AIDS pandemic came to the US in the 1990s, society at large turned their back on the gay community which was hit the hardest. Le****ns were a huge majority of the people who stayed around and supported those fighting the virus. These women stayed with and nursed infected individuals, donated blood to the victims, provided food and housing, took charge as community leaders, challenged patriarchal norms, and more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The second reason is during the AIDS pandemic, research was mostly done on gay men, so often le****ns who had contracted the virus weren’t diagnosed and suffered in silence.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over time, the GLBT acronym changed to LGBTQIA+, and le****ns were moved to the front in honor of their service, support and solidarity of the gay community, as well as to remember and honor those who had suffered in silence.

Happy Pride!

The first pride celebration began as a one-year commemoration march of the Stonewall Riots that happened on June 28, 1969. The commemoration march, known as the Christopher Street Liberation Day March, happened on June 28, 1970.

This inspired other activists and organizations to hold their own pride demonstrations in 1970, in other cities in both the US and abroad, which created their own traditions in the years following.

It was not until 1999 that President Clinton declared June to be "Gay and Le***an Pride Month" in the US.

Our favorite way to spend a rainy day is by playing board games. Having a dice tray helps keep exuberant dice contained so they're not rolling all over the place.

This dice tray is made from spalted ash with walnut splines. Bugs ate lunch throughout the spalted ash, so we chose to fill their tracks with blue epoxy to highlight the fun lines they created.

What is your favorite board game to play?

Our family's tree farm doesn't grow much "light" wood like maple, so when we get a rare board of something other than walnut, cherry, or oak, we get excited to highlight it!

This elm has some fun spalting and streaking in it, making it even more special. We paired it with some walnut to highlight the dark spalting, and some cherry to bring out the red hues in the streaking. We're biased, but we think it turned out beautiful!

We had the pleasure of working with out of Portland to make this giant "four in a row" (😉) game for their tent at .

This was an unique challenge - we haven't worked on something this large that needed to be this precise before. As always, Keegan was up for the challenge, and engineered a game board that was extremely sturdy, while still looking nice.

Thank you Jazmine from ArcelorMittal for trusting us with this project. We hope everyone enjoyed playing with it during BucDays!
