🇺🇸 THE MYSTERY IS OVER… AND THIS ONE WAS MADE TO MAKE YOU STOP AND REMEMBER. 🇺🇸
For those of us old enough to remember September 11, 2001, there are certain images, sounds and feelings that never really leave you. You remember where you were. You remember watching those towers. You remember the fear, the disbelief… and then you remember the courage.
That is exactly what we wanted this ONE-OF-ONE 9/11 Memorial to capture.
This finished piece features an 8" × 12" engraved slate, raised above a hand-carved piece of Nordic Spruce with burned edges and a deep Red Chestnut stain. The mounting is hidden behind the slate, giving it a beautiful floating appearance above the wood.
But what makes this piece special isn't just how it was built.
Look closely at the details.
At the bottom left sits an empty FDNY helmet marked “343.” That number isn't decoration. It represents the 343 members of the FDNY who were lost on September 11—an empty helmet for the firefighters who ran toward those towers and never came home.
Across the memorial in the center are real names of people who lost their lives that day. They aren't random filler put there to make the design look good. They were sons and daughters. Husbands and wives. Mothers and fathers. Friends and coworkers. Real people with real families who woke up that morning never knowing it would be their last.
And then look at the bottom right…
FLIGHT 93 — “LET’S ROLL.”
Those words are forever tied to passenger Todd Beamer. Shortly before the passengers and crew of Flight 93 fought back and rushed the cockpit, Beamer was heard saying, “Let’s roll.” They knew what had already happened in New York and at the Pentagon, and they made the decision to fight. Their actions prevented the hijackers from reaching their intended target.
The Twin Towers stand again in the center. The Pentagon is remembered. The memorial pool represents the emptiness left behind. The dove rises toward the light. Liberty still stands. And the firefighters are shown doing exactly what so many of them did that morning…
walking toward the danger.
This isn't just something we made to hang on a wall.
We wanted to create something that, even 25 years later, could make somebody look at it and remember that morning… remember the people we lost… remember the heroes… and remember what this country felt like when, for a moment, we weren't divided by anything. We were simply Americans. 🇺🇸
There will never be another one exactly like it.
