Little Nerikomi trays.

Fun fact: I have a theory that these trays can be used for a personality test.
Would you choose the marbled unstructured trays or the geometric patterns trays?
If you choose the swirl, you're a maelstrom of emotions! 🤣
OK, I have no data to speak of, but it's interesting to see which kind people pick up first at markets and doing sociological experiments in your head makes time pass quicker when sales are slow!

I don't do as much Nerikomi as I used to, because there are so many other things I want to work on, but I miss it. It looks amazing and you never know exactly how it will come out.

This Mobius vase was a test piece to find out what happens when you dip pipe cleaners into slip and fire them.
The metal didn't completely melt but it's brittle and one piece broke off when I was manipulating it.
It creates an interesting texture though so I'll keep it in mind in case I need it for a sculpture later on.
Not planning to sell this piece as it is a bit rough.

A couple of small slipcast cups, one with drips and one with carved holes which don't quite go through the wall.
The black one is translucent and when you put a candle in, the holes glow an orange color, it's quite cool.
I was lazy and didn't make a picture, mostly because it' s hard to take a picture in the dark and for it to come out looking good, so you'll just have to believe me!

One more view of this Mobius sculpture called "Relief" inspired by mountains.
It is a big piece (for me) and split when I was manipulating it after firing to emphasize the crackle effect.
The breaking apart of this piece is poetic justice as the crackling aimed at mimicking melting snow and glaciers to emphasize both their indomitable beauty and fragility at the same time.
I am starting to realize that fragility is an important theme in my work.
I also like the title with the double meaning of the word relief.
Mountains need relief from rising temperature which is breaking them apart, as well as being a geographical relief.
I will have to make it again. Resilience in the face of fragility is important.
In the meantime, it's looking good in my backyard.

Carved slipcast cup with multiple colored layers you can see when you carve through the design.
I started playing with mixing lines and circles in my designs and I like it!
I also love the inside with some the layers of colors visible in transparency, creating an interesting effect.

My interpretation of a yin yang design with two intertwined Mobius strips in this new Mobius Wall Sculpture.
I decided not to use black and white, but green and purple, just because the color of the clay is already white, so it wouldn't work quite right with one black strip .
I am not 100 percent happy with the result, so I might make another attempt later, maybe with black and white colored clay.

Having fun figuring out what I can do with the slipcasting technique and lots of colors!
Here are two of my latest experiments.
The grey bowl came out with beautiful marbling, finally getting better at this!
The white bowl has carved holes inside and outside through four different layers of colors.
It was really fun to see what happens when you carve through multiple layers from both sides at the same time, but probably a little of an overkill, as it makes it less functional.
Not that it matters, since it already found a new home so someone liked it well enough, however dysfunctional!

My favorite latest wall sculpture is this group of Three x Three Mobius wall sculptures.
This one is at the same time all about symmetry (three colors, three diameters, three depths, three pieces) and asymmetry (the way colors alternate with shapes and the way the circles are all uniquely distorted).
I also like the fact that it can be purely abstract, or you can see faces (two eyes and a mouth) depending on how you look at each piece.
And I love the cracked clay blocking one of the apertures, I am planning to use this again!
