Heirloom Eastlakes!

It is always a privilege to bring heirlooms back to life and learn of their rich history from
the owner!

This charming little set of Eastlakes got a complete makeover. Stripped down to the frame, joints reinforced, inner frame repairs, new hand tied spring systems, cleaned, polished and recovered in a gorgeous Crypton (Pixel 18 Electric Garden).

Let's talk about the soft furnishings and design elements in this cozy little space! No matter what your personal style may be, there is something to appreciate in this carefully curated design.

What is the first thing you notice? The large table right? The antique dropleaf table fully erected goes against the grain scaled with the other furnishings and adds a bold statement.

The symmetrically designed space is chockful of other notable design features. Such as, the set of traditional style wing chairs are upholstered in an all-over patterned fabric in black/creme which grounds the room and allows the playful use of patterns, color, and textures throughout the space. Notice the floral fabrics used for the lumbar pillows and upholstered ottoman. The gold gingham lap blankets displayed on the head rests add the perfect pop of color. The small, pleated ruffle trim on the floral pillows and the ruffle top curtain panels adds softness paired with the rooms wood features. The windows, chair frames, large table and framed mirror. The earthy jute rug adds the perfect neutral texture without distracting from the room.

How do you achieve this traditional design style? A simple all-over patterned upholstery fabric on the larger upholstered furniture was the key starting point in this beautifully designed space!

New cushions have been custom fitted and designed for my client's wicker set from Pier One Imports.

A button tufted back cushion was added for lumbar support. Back straps with velcro were added for stability.

The seat cushion was designed with a hidden back zipper closure showcased on the open back curve of the chair.

Ticking is a great option for custom slipcovers! It's casual, versatile and washable.

This slipcover was designed for a client's wing chair in a black stripe ticking with ties down the center back and a dressmaker skirt.

This unique vinyl product has been developed to emulate the look and feel of soft leather but goes the extra yard in strength, durability and UV protection. It has a dull finish designed to be low burnishing. It can be wiped clean using mild soap/water or Formula 409 for stubborn stains.

Been working on a set of Eastlakes that has needed a little extra TLC on the frames but these little gems are so worth it!

If you are lucky enough to own an Eastlake, do history justice and preserve it!

One of our sweet clients sent some pics of their window seat cushion we recovered awhile back.

Blue denim for upholstery or slipcovers is always a great choice! It can be paired with any color and style just like a pair of Levi jeans.

Since this new cover had to be fitted over previously tufted seat foam, the best option was to mimic the button tufting on the new cover.

Discovering there are multiple layers to strip is an UGHH moment for upholsterers.

But I think there is a redeeming factor in discovering the timeless fabrics hidden beneath the surface. It tells a beautiful story that makes the extra work all worth it!

~About Canvas/Cotton Duck for Custom Slipcovers~

Client provided a lighter weight 8oz cotton canvas that was prewashed to avoid shrinkage when laundered.

Although a 10oz prewashed canvas is recommended, this lighter weight had a tighter weave that made it doable.

Need custom washable slipcovers for your lifestyle? Consider the following when buying your own fabric:

8oz - light weight
●Recommended with limited or well managed volume of child/pet traffic

10oz - medium weight
●Recommended for normal volume of child/pet traffic

12oz - heavy weight
●Recommended for heavy volume of child/LARGE pet traffic

14oz - heavy weight
●Not suitable for slipcovers
