At noon in November,
the fox hunts the frozen grass. 🦊
Not madness, not rabies—
just hunger racing against the clock.

Each leap, each catch,
a heartbeat closer to winter’s edge.
Survival is the only instinct left.

Demonbreun’s Cave sits tucked in a limestone bluff along the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee. It was once home to Timothy Demonbreun, Nashville’s first white settler, who arrived around 1766 as a French-Canadian fur trader exploring the area known then as French Lick. He used the cave as his shelter while trapping, trading with Native Americans, and scouting the land. Stories say he spent harsh winters there, storing furs and hiding from raiding parties. He hunted buffalo nearby and met with Cherokee leaders close to the cave’s entrance. Though now gated, you can still spot it from the river near the railroad bridge. Demonbreun’s name lives on through a downtown statue, a street, and the city he helped build.
