LIVING logo moss wall air filter for Procter and Gamble’s corporate office headquarters in Cincinnati, OH.

Yes this is LIVE moss - not preserved moss (what other moss is made of). Other companies use preserved moss, which is no longer living, treated with toxic chemicals, gives off a nasty chemical smell, and does not last a year without needing complete replacement. Procter & Gamble’s corporate offices previously had a preserved moss wall installed, and it did not last. So, instead they chose to go with long lasting living moss wall system.

Why does Moss Pure last while the other companies don’t? Our founder and CEO invented a brand new, patented system and device that keeps living moss alive without needing watering, sunlight or maintenance. This invention won first place in an MIT startup competition in June 2020 where Moss Pure was created. Short answer: living moss won’t survive without Moss Pure’s science. It’s our science that is the key to making our products work. But, Moss Pure was not designed to look like a scientific device. Instead, it is a high-end, aesthetically pleasing decor piece for Fortune 1000 companies, corporate offices, life science and biotech companies, software companies, healthcare, luxury residential clients, and modern homes.

The logo was engineered of premium materials, crafted in house by Moss Pure, and embedded within our 3D living moss. design.

The circle frame was CNC machined and created by Machined In Wood. Moss Pure then custom painted the white oak frame in our signature matte black color.

Bringing biophilic design to life in a completely custom way.

For this private residential project, Moss Pure engineered and fabricated a custom double-sided 4-foot diameter circular frame using CNC fabrication, custom white oak, and a custom stain finish — all integrated with our proprietary and patented 100% living moss wall system and air filter.

Unlike preserved moss, this is a true living moss air filtration system designed to function as both luxury art and a scientifically engineered living environment. To accommodate the suspended installation, custom eye bolts were integrated into the structure so the piece could safely hang from the ceiling within the home. (Thank you to Machined In Wood out of Bellingham, MA for helping to CNC fabricate the circular frame and bringing our engineering to life).

This project pushed the boundaries of what is possible with living moss design. Engineering a circular, suspended, double-sided living moss system required extensive consideration of airflow, weight distribution, structural integrity, biological performance, and long-term sustainability of the living environment itself.

While the final result was incredibly rewarding, projects like this also reinforce why we typically recommend our 3D terrain living moss designs. The living moss itself is the art — and our 3D terrain designs are intentionally crafted to maximize both the aesthetic beauty and long-term performance of the living moss environment.

Using patent pending technology, Moss Pure’s living moss wall system keeps our living moss surviving in our design without needing watering (no irrigation system), no sunlight, and no maintenance. Moss Pure recently replaced a double sided preserved moss wall at a corporate office lobby. The preserved moss was fading, causing mold, and needed complete replacement. Other moss companies use preserved moss, which is not made of real moss, is no longer living and treated with chemicals, and needs complete replacement and maintenance. Preserved moss companies may say that their moss is “real” but that’s not the case.

If you’ve seen a moss wall out and about, it’s not made of real moss. Other moss companies and installers use preserved moss, which is no longer living, looks fake, and needs replacing within a year. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize this until they’ve had it installed.

How is Moss Pure different? Moss Pure is the world’s first and only product to use 100% living moss without needing watering, sunlight, or maintenance. The reason why is because of our patent pending and proprietary engineering and biotechnology. Design designed to last, our living moss wall systems are also scientifically certified air filters and stress relief devices. We do NOT sell live moss on its own. Live moss on its own is not an air filter and will not survive for more than a few days. It’s our science and innovation that makes unique - this a brand new product and invention that the world hasn’t seen before.

Moss Pure was invented at a startup competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June 2020 where it won first place start up. It took over a year to research and develop our product and test and certify it. The real risk we took in the design is we made it aesthetically pleasing and did not want Moss Pure to look like a scientific device - even though it is jam packed with science.

These pictures were taken over 6 months after installation. We made 4 unique LIVING moss air logos for a high-end senior living facility in Wisconsin ( ). The challenges? Well this isn’t your regular moss project. We don’t use preserved or dead moss like other companies. Using patent pending and proprietary biology and engineering, we’re the only company to use live moss in our unique invention and design. We custom engineered a specific logo, font, and vision for our client - while using our 100% living moss AND science so that no watering, sunlight, or maintenance is needed and the moss is built to last in our product - we’re not just adding moss to a decor piece. We first fabricated the logos into subtle acrylic backers so our client could install these in one piece easily. Although these look so simple, the work was complex and rewarding.
