Heart N' Soul Aromas ✨Natural, handcrafted aromatic products for daily self care- crafted for mind, body and soul. By Certified Aromatherapist Nikki VanZandt.
(1)

I am a certified aromatherapist with over 10 years experience. My journey with essential oils has helped me mentally and physically. I originally looked to the use of essential oils to help with anxiety. As I continued on my journey I became fascinated how the chemistry of plants contain different properties to help in a variety of ways. I wanted and needed to learn more so I studied with Aromatic Studies and am certified in the Aroma 101 Foundations, Aroma 201: Advanced Aromatherapy and Organic Body Care Products courses. I am also a member of NAHA- National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy whose mission is to advance the knowledge of the medicinal use of aromatic plants and essential oils to its fullest extent and to support aromatherapy as a truly holistic professional art and science. The more I worked with essential oils, the more I learned how synthetic fragrances are harmful to the respiratory system and have no therapeutic value what so ever. This is where I really dove in. I began to make my own cleaning supplies for home with essential oils and natural ingredients. I looked at my soap, shower gel, candles and stopped using commercially produced items. I learned how to make soap and candles and skin care products. Here I am with Heart n Soul Aromas where I really put my heart and soul into everything I create. My vision is to create with the seasons and to focus on soaps, candles and essentials with pure essential oils and natural ingredients that are good for your body and your home. Thank you for visiting my shop. I hope you enjoy these products as much as I enjoy creating them. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out. Aromatically Yours,
Nikki

Sunrises never get old for me. 🌅

The slow start to the morning, the colors and clouds gradually coming into view… they never look the same.

This morning, I enjoyed watching nature’s art from a balcony, with the comfort of my dog in my lap. Moments of awe, shared with another being. ❤️

May you find a moment of awe and beauty in your day today, and every day.

With love,
Heart n’ Soul Aromas 🌿

Kotodama of Scent, by Salvatore Battaglia🌿

There are books you read, and then there are books that make you stop.

This was one of those books for me.

As I came to the end of Kotodama of Scent, I found myself completely stopped in my tracks by its beauty. I’m not sure I can fully put into words what this book stirred in me.

Built around 28 Japanese words, each word is explored through its beautiful calligraphy, cultural meaning, universal message, the essential oil it represents, and affirmations to carry with you.

It is a book to read slowly.

A book to linger over.

A book to return to.

I know I will be referencing this one for years to come.

And aromatherapist or not, I would recommend this book to everyone. There is something here for all of us.

The interview with the priests in the back of the book was especially touching to me. Their words hold such depth and simplicity, and I found myself returning to the quiet realization again and again:

Life is fleeting.

Situations are fleeting.

And perhaps part of living well is learning to notice what is here while it is here.

The small things.

The beauty around us.

A moment of stillness.

A scent that brings us back to ourselves.

I’m going to go back through this book slowly, and make notes on these beautiful words. There is so much I want to sit with.

And I keep thinking…

Isn’t this part of what aromatherapy is about, too?

To slow down.

To become present.

To notice.

To reconnect with the beauty of the moment- and perhaps with ourselves.

What a beautiful reminder. 🤍🌿

Find the aroma that draws you in. The one that makes your shoulders soften, your breath slow, and something inside you says, yes, this is what I needed.

🌿 Have you heard the news?

I’ve released a curated collection of 10 hand-poured essential oils, each one poured with love and intention.

There is something beautiful about essential oils: they begin as plants.

Flowers, leaves, roots, bark, fruit—each with its own unique aromatic compounds, holding the distinctive character of the plant.

Through the process of distillation, those aromatic compounds are extracted and concentrated into the essential oil we know and use.

A breath in.
A moment to pause.
A chance to slow down and reconnect with the plants around us.

The plants are here, offering us an invitation to breathe. 🌱

If you’ve ever wondered, What is aromatherapy, anyway? I’d love to explore that question with you.

My What Is Aromatherapy, Anyway? workshop is happening January 16. We’ll explore the oils, learn more about aromatherapy, and create something to take home and enjoy.

Yes, January may feel a little far away…but it will be here before we know it. You can sign up now on my website.

Until then, take a breath.
Keep breathing. 💜

A little recap of the AIA Conference 🌿

Surrounded by so much beauty and peace, I found myself enjoying the trails and the wisdom of the trees. I experienced a group-led forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku) for the first time and came away with a deeper connection to the trees and the natural world. That was an unexpected and beautiful surprise for me.

I loved all of the lectures and workshops. There is always so much to learn, and I’m still digesting everything I took in. I came home inspired, with so many new ideas—and, of course, so many books to read!

But perhaps one of the greatest highlights of the conference was the people and connections made along the way.

A new friendship came out of this trip, and we ventured off the property together to a nearby trail for a beautiful hike on a beautiful day. Thank you for that amazing time! 💚

And then there was meeting Salvatore Battaglia in person. This was truly amazing for me. Sal has been teaching and contributing to the field of aromatherapy for decades, and his work has influenced so many.

But what struck me most was how kind and humble he was. What a light in the world. I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to meet him.

All in all, what an experience. I came home with new knowledge, new inspiration, new friendships, a stack of books—and essential oils—and a heart full of gratitude. 🌿✨
