There’s something beautiful about a “new thing.”🤍

For our first Sunday Scripture, we’re sharing one of Lindsey’s favorites — Isaiah 43:18–19.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”

These words are the heart behind Gypsy Soul. What began with taking something broken and restoring its beauty became so much more. This serves as a reminder that God is always working, restoring, renewing, and making a way, even when we can’t see it yet.

This beautiful 1940s bo***ir French lamp came to us from an estate sale, but she needed a shade worthy of her. Then we found the perfect blank-canvas lampshade at another estate sale, and our sweet Lindsey decided to work a little magic.

A little reminder from “Mother Gypsy Soul” herself, Lindsey! Who, if we’re being honest, inspires all of us more than she probably realizes.🤎

She has a way of seeing beauty in things other people might overlook. An old piece with a few scratches. A room full of things that have already lived a lifetime. A season of life that might not look perfect, but is still so incredibly good.

We love looking back at the golden days. The nostalgia. The stories. The things that remind us of simpler times.

But Lindsey reminds us that the golden days aren’t just behind us.

They’re happening right now.

They’re in the ordinary mornings, the people we love, the work we get to do, the laughter in the shop, the homes we’re creating and even the seasons that are stretching us.

Some people become part of history.

And some people somehow become part of home.

Today, the world lost Dolly Parton, and it feels a little like we lost a piece of America with her. The rhinestones. The big hair. The mountain songs. The front porches and patchwork coats. The kind of voice that could make you laugh, cry, believe in yourself and look for the rainbow all in the same breath.🤍

And today, this old jukebox sitting inside Gypsy Soul feels a little more special.

Because this is what we mean when we talk about the beauty of old things.

Imagine the hands that pressed these buttons. The quarters dropped inside. The rooms filled with music. Maybe somewhere along the way, someone stood in front of a jukebox just like this one and chose Dolly.

Maybe it was “Jolene.”
Maybe “9 to 5.”
Maybe “I Will Always Love You.”

And for a few minutes, the whole room belonged to her.

That’s true American nostalgia.

Today, we hope heaven has rhinestones on the gates, wildflowers growing along the roads, and a jukebox playing somewhere in the distance.

There’s something almost magical about stepping inside a nearly 100-year-old home and getting to wander through the things left behind.

We recently found ourselves inside a historic 1920s Birmingham mansion for an estate sale, walking from room to room surrounded by pieces that have already lived a lifetime.

And you can’t help but wonder…

Who chose that piece all those years ago?
How many holidays, Sunday dinners, ordinary mornings and changing seasons did it quietly witness?

That’s the thing about old things. They come with scratches, worn edges, faded finishes and imperfections…but they also come with a story.

And maybe that’s why we love them so much at Gypsy Soul.

We get to find the pieces someone else once loved, bring them back with us, and watch them become part of someone else’s home and story.

A little old. A little eclectic. A little imperfect.

And somehow, more beautiful because of it.
