What a dream it has been to have the opportunity to design this beautiful 8,000-square-foot lake home on Lake Martin, Alabama.

This project began almost 2½ years ago, when we flew to Houston to select the stone for the exterior and began creating the vision for everything that would follow. From the bathrooms and paint colors to stains, finishes, furnishings, and lighting.

From the beginning, my client wanted this home to feel comfortable, collected, and cozy, a place where family and friends could gather, relax, and make memories.

As the project evolved, so did the design. We moved away from an entirely modern, neutral palette and began layering in curated vintage pieces, modern touches, and beautiful shades of green and blue. Our Benjamin Moore palette included Sea Pearl, Pale Oak, Urbane Bronze, Sussex Green, and Knoxville Grey- colors that felt perfect for a home on the lake.

The sourcing was one of my favorite parts. My client and I traveled to High Point, North Carolina; Round Top, Texas; Scott’s Antique Market; antique shops throughout South Carolina and Georgia, and even Paris, France slowly collecting special pieces that gave the home character and made it feel as though it had evolved over time.

Every room was thoughtfully considered, from the furniture, bedding, rugs, and lighting to the artwork and smallest accessories. As each treasure found its place, the vision we had talked about for more than two years finally came to life.

We still have a few pieces left to find, but I couldn’t wait to share a glimpse of some of the finished spaces.

And I could never have done this installation without my incredible team—Lisa, Margaret, Janet, and Dawn. Over two very long days, we worked together to turn years of planning into a home.

Most importantly, my dear friend and client loves her home which makes every decision, every sourcing trip, and every hour spent on this project completely worth it.

From design to install, this one will always be special. More to come later….
