Welcome to my studio! As many of my friends and family know, I like to make things. All the time. Especially Christmas ornaments and decorations which I have given to friends and family members for almost 50 years. I have always tried to create something new every year, so I have a wide range of ornaments in my portfolio.
My creations are made from many different materials, from yarn and fabric to paint and papier maché clay, and just about everything in between. I started as a teenager knitting and doing macramé and branched out from there. I believe that handmade gifts are more personal and from the heart, especially at Christmas. And when I had young nieces and nephews I was adamant about making handmade gifts for them. Art from the heart.
Over the years my passion for caring about the environment has grown, and so has my "inventory" of raw materials. Perhaps it is because my parents were children of the depression and my Grandmother, who lived with us, was always saving string, rubber bands, envelopes for list making, and virtually anything else that might possibly have a use. And that sentiment has certainly influenced me.
My very large "stash" of fabric consists of small scraps that my sewing friends and family save from the trash for me, combined with my own; leftover fabric and bargain bin and thrift store remnants; and outdated and ill-fitting clothing which is carefully deconstructed and salvaged for future use.
Now that I am officially retired from my "day job" I am finally fulfilling my lifelong dream of having my own business making and creating and playing in my studio, and sharing my creations with all of you.
For 2020 I am concentrating on fabric ornaments.
For 2021 I have plans for paper (saved from the recycle bin, of course) papier maché, crochet, more fabric, and beaded ornaments. I will also be expanding my portfolio to include bridal, baptisms, baby and wedding showers, Mother's day and birthday gifts, home decor and much more, all made with my motto of "turning waste into whimsy".
I will also take custom orders beginning in January of 2021, so if you see something you like or have an idea in mind I hope you will allow me to work with you.
