2024 is the year for Topirets! Over the holidays I made the biggest (financial and physical) investment of my art career. I'm very very excited to use my new press from and all the new art to come! We moved houses late 2023 and now finally starting to put a priority on getting my home office/art studio set up. This was the very first step. Progress photos to come!

This will no doubt bring lots of joy to the printing process and hopefully all around facilitate being able to print more high quality pieces. Just don't ask about all the swearing trying to move this press inside my office studio 😆 it's very big and heavy!!

2023, a year in review

2023 had many ups and downs, maybe a few more downs than I'd had hoped for but it also has some incredible highs, namely getting married this past fall. Truly was an incredible day that I will always look back on fondly but I'm very very happy and relieved that the wedding planning process is finally done! It really is a lot of work planning a wedding. Between that and still recovering from a five year old concussion, I wasn't able to focus on my linocut business nearly as much as I would have liked to, with very limited new works and few events and shows.

With all the lows this past year, it really prompted a lot of introspection and general reflection: nothing and no one is permanent, the value of our relationships, the ways in which we choose to spend the time we're given, and the dreams and passions we choose to pursue... Linoprints are a passion and a creative outlet that help me break out of the rigidity of my 9-5. I have pages and pages of ideas of new works that I can't wait to start. Let 2024 be a year with more highs than lows, being present and nurturing our valued relationships, and many more dreams and positions pursued!

You'll be hearing a lot more from me this year!

The story behind the name of the newest print. "Друже мій, станьмо в стрій " (Stand with me brother) comes from the first line of the Запорізький Марш (Zaporizhian March). The march became the sound of the rallies in the late 1980's in Ukraine's fight for freedom. One of its arrangements also became a main march of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The text of the march is extremely relatable to today's war on Ukraine, almost as if it was written today and as always Ukrainians will stand and defend.

The print depicts a Ukrainian Kozak on a horse ready to charge into battle to defend the motherland and fight for its freedom.

Short excerpt from the march (loosely translated into English to follow):

Друже мій, станьмо в стрій!
Чуєш на Сході гримить –
А значить завтра в бій!

Знов у нашій хаті вороги трикляті,
Знов імперське кодло лізе з всіх щілин,
Знов прийшло зі Сходу горе для народу,
Знову час настав згадати,
Брате, наш козацький чин!

Станьмо, браття, сміло за святеє діло!
Дух Тараса в серці кожного горить!
Україну-Мати з пекла визволяти!
Кожен хто чим може наближає Перемоги мить!

Thank you to everyone who came and checked out my table at the Ottawa Ukrainian Catholic Church Bazaar! Was a successful weekend of Christmas gift purchases and Christmas card purchases. There's still some time to put your orders in before the holidays. Last ship date is December 16. Stock is limited so get your orders in soon!

Oh the difference!

First two photos are the first two prints I ever made. The one with the goat was my first go at a linoprint, wasn't an original design, I was just focusing on learning how to carve. This was carved in December of 2017.

My second ever linocut I decided to already make things difficult for myself and make a multi block print; the now sold out Deconstructed Borscht.

And the last two photos - this is of my latest print, "Чуєш брате мій", another multi block print.

All self-taught. Technique has definitely come a long way (and my ability to take pictures 🙈)!

UFest was a success!

A little bit of a delayed post but I wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who helped me prep, helped pick up other slack and responsibilities as I prepared, set up, run the booth, take down etc. I really do appreciate it and could not have done it without your help.

This was my first time having a booth/table set up at a festival, I'm very happy with the results. I learned so so much and can't wait to do it again 😊

All remaining stock from the festival will get uploaded onto the website on the upcoming day or so. I will post once it's available so keep your eye out!
