I am SO very proud of this show and this amazing cast!
Please allow me to tell a story about this show. (And concurrently about the way The Menagerie Theatre and Event Center got its name.)
My kids had a precious classmate and dear friend named Bo Payne.
He was one of the most open-hearted people I ever knew. He literally loved everyone and was a bundle of laughs and sunshine wherever he went.
He made directors, teachers, classmates, castmates, whomever he was around, feel like they were the most important person ever.
However, there were undercurrents that most of us didn't see. He struggled with mental health issues that he put WAY too much effort into hiding (so as not to burden others with it.)
Those issues were eventually his undoing, and he (much to the surprise of everyone) took his life on March 17th, 2017.
In addition to being a great person, he was an extremely talented actor, often being cast in highschool theatre, community theatre, and even a local Halmark movie.
He won several acting awards, including one for playing the role of Tom Wingfield in the play, The Glass Menagerie.
It is a very difficult and intense role...and he captured it beautifully.
He fell in love with the show so much that he would often ask me to produce it. I would reply, "If I can ever get my own place Bo, but straight plays are had to sell as a drop in show."
So, when I built The Menagerie, I decided I would produce The Glass Menagerie every year on the weekend(s) closest to March 17th.
So, here it is, our first March being open, and I have kept that commitment.
