For the Filling:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
1️⃣ Prepare the Cake Mix: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package directions. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
2️⃣ Make the Peanut Butter Filling: In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, peanut butter, butter, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar until creamy.
3️⃣ Layer the Cake: Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the top of the chocolate cake batter. Use a knife to gently swirl the peanut butter mixture into the cake.
4️⃣ Add Toppings: Sprinkle the peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, and chopped peanuts (if using) evenly over the cake.
5️⃣ Bake: Place the cake in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. The cake will be set but still gooey, which gives it the "earthquake" effect!
6️⃣ Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool slightly before serving. The layers may look cracked and messy, but that's the charm of this ooey-gooey treat!
