Color, layers, juxtaposition. I've been studying this formula my whole life, I just didn't always have a name for it.
I spent part of my childhood growing up overseas, surrounded by art and architecture that felt less like something to observe from afar and more like something that was just a part of everyday life. That's where it started. Design wasn't precious. It was just part of how the world looked.
I usually leave formulas and spreadsheets to Adam, but this is where I love to get analytical about my art. Our designs always begin with a party of colors, not just one. They include layers of texture that hum rather than shout. And they juxtapose elements to bring out the best qualities of each one (think an antique vase next to a sleek, modern lamp or a goopy oil painting over a crisp console) , because that contrast is where the magic lives.\
