The secret? It’s less about filling every shelf and more about creating balance.
A few things we keep in mind:
• Mix up your books. Stack some horizontally, stand others vertically, and vary the heights throughout.
• Layer in art. Framed pieces leaning against the back of a shelf add depth and keep everything from feeling too perfectly placed.
• Play with scale. A few larger objects make a bigger impact than lots of tiny accessories.
• Repeat without matching. Carry similar colors, materials and shapes throughout the shelves to create a subtle rhythm.
• Add something personal. Books you love, collected pieces, photographs and objects with a story are what keep a bookshelf from looking like a showroom.
• Leave some breathing room. Not every inch needs something on it. A little negative space lets the pieces you do choose stand out.
The goal is always the same: collected over time, thoughtfully layered, and personal to the people who live there. 🖤
Save this one for your next bookshelf styling day.
