How wide are your doors and walkways? 🧐
In many older homes, you might be working with clear widths as narrow as 28 to 30 inches, which can make movement feel tight and uncomfortable.
For better mobility and long-term comfort—especially when considering ADA guidelines or planning to Age-in-Place—we recommend:
🏠Walkways and hallways: A minimum of 36 inches, with 42 to 48 inches being ideal for smoother navigation and wheelchair accessibility.
🚪Doorways: At least 32 inches of clear space, which typically requires a 36-inch-wide door to meet accessibility standards.
In this custom home, all walkways were intentionally designed to be 48 inches wide, paired with 36-inch doors, creating a spacious and highly accessible environment throughout.
If your space feels cramped or hard to move through, widening your doorways and walkways can dramatically improve both functionality and comfort.🏠✅
