These resources are essential for the global transition to green energy and the production of modern electronics, leading to intense competition between global powers such as China and the United States. The strategic necessity of these minerals has created a "war economy" where instability is often incentivized by external actors to ensure low-cost access to commodities and to bypass the complexities of dealing with a stable, sovereign government.
