I live in a small community that is not unlike 100's of communities in this great country. I just returned from a civic celebration of National Flag Day. As always I am struck with the countless people, that in their small way take time to celebrate their respect and reverence for the iconic symbol. Even more so the work and effort on the part of the special citizen and member of our business community that has made this his focus and special gift to our community.
It made my mind wander back in time to that special combination of will, spirit, and determination that was so instrumental in the creation of this great country. That unique blend of attributes that miraculously came together at a special time historically to create a nation so special that it has survived the test of time and challenges that exists still to this day.
It amazes me that this special population created not only this great nation but all that comprises it's existance.
Because our business "The Seraph", encompasses the period from 1675 to 1835, I am in wonder at what ingenious strides were made. Just from the standpoint of handcrafted and design of furniture, textile, paint and color, architecture, technical advancements, farming and food production, medical advancements, and inventions. All of these changed the course of humanity. Imagine, they came with nothing but a few personal belongings, what knowledge they could contribute, and a strong desire for freedom.
That combination created untold progress. This nation and all that we are blessed to enjoy began with nothing more than what I call "The American Spirit". Yes, it is what I have loved and enjoyed all these 50 years. It is this quality that I have helped a 92 year old woman redecorating her living room because she wanted to "spruce things up". To the terminal brain tumor husband who wanted to make sure his wife had the home she always wanted. (Miraculously he survived and lived to enjoy it with her.) A 10 year old little girl who was raised within a primitive homelife, who wanted an Ugly Picture(Primitive painting) for her bedroom. This is just a few of the many many stories of The American Spirit I have experienced. This is my hope, that this energy and soul has permeated the very fabric of all that we hold dear. The energy that can be infused into a project, a cause, a desire, will breathe life into whatever we love and cherish. This is what separates us, makes us unique. I see it every day in many ways. From creating your special home or garden, to your job, or a civic project. It is the reason we will survive and thrive. We are so blessed to live in the greatest country in the world and it comes with a good dose of American Spirit.
Respectfully submitted,
