Windows get a lot of attention inside the American home.

Replacement windows are a major home-improvement priority, and generally a pretty big-ticket item. But dressing up your interior with new and more stylish window treatments is one of the most common ways homeowners can make an immediate impact.

Curtains, drapes, shades and blinds are low-to-moderately priced design items - and many or even most can be do-it-yourself projects. But they are, quite literally, "just window dressing" when it comes to making a permanent and value-enhancing impact around one of the most prominent features in any home.

To make a major impact on enhancing your windows, you really need a permanent fixture or treatment. And that means interior shutters: a larger investment than some other options, but one that will easily pay off over the long term by making your home's interior more desirable and more energy efficient.
