Whether it's a collection of similar items or a group of unique items, gathering together is a perfect plan for displaying your favorite things.
On a tray, in a jar, along a ledge, in a cabinet, within a basket, in an alcove, on a mantel, or under a cloche ....
Together those items enhance one another while creating a cohesive presentation.
Get as many textures as you can, such as: leather, glass, nubby fabric, handmade paper, clay, twig, feather, iron and wood .... all the feels.
I attempt to keep my displays from becoming too busy by uniting them in a narrow color palette.
If color is your thing, gather the colorful items against a simple, clean backdrop for an instant pop! (Yes! Your backdrop can have vibrant color.)
Then, leave clear space around them to create a frame and enhance focus.
Your eye will welcome a place to rest, and your vignette will stand out against the backdrop.
There are always exceptions to the rule, but this is a primer for building a pleasing vignette where the eye can focus, and the brain can grasp and appreciate.
