Color swatches and samples are great, but they don’t really give you the full picture of what it will look like when it’s finished.

That’s where the fun part comes in: design mockups! We love being able to visualize options before anything gets picked out in real life.

Take this kitchen, for example. We pulled inspiration straight from the backsplash. Warm creams, deep charcoal veining, dusty plum streaks, and soft greige undertones all living in the same slab.

▪︎Warm cream: the soft neutral already woven through the stone
▪︎Deep charcoal: lifted from the darkest veins for a moodier feel
▪︎Dusty mauve: straight from those plum streaks running through the marble
▪︎Soft greige: a grounding tone that lets the stone stay the star

Same layout. Same bones. Four completely different kitchens, all because we let the stone lead. Next time you’re staring at a slab, take a second look. Your palette might already be hiding in there.

Like sauv-blanc and baked brie, kitchens can be an elegant, timeless, and down right delicious for decades to come. All it takes are some thoughtfully selected finish elements and space for their subtle beauty to take hold.

Here are three pairings we think, like an aged fine wine, that just get better with time:

▪️Medium stained cabinetry + soft whites + unlacquered brass
Warm wood adds richness, soft whites keep it light, and unlacquered brass develops a patina over time. Like a living finish, as your personality grows and your decorative layers evolve, the heart of your home just gets better and better.

▪️Color-drenched cabinetry, walls, and trim
When everything shares a hue, the room feels calm and intentional instead of chaotic or busy. Color drenching is an unapologetic immersion into an instant mood.

▪️Italian checkered marble + green cabinetry
The graphic floor brings movement, the green grounds it, and together they feel like a space that’s always belonged there.

Good pairings don’t need to shout. They just work, and they keep working for years.

Things We’re Loving Right Now: Matte Surfaces

We are LOVING honed, matte, and leathered countertops. This elegantly subtle layer of design creates interest and balance while leaving space for other finishes.

Polished surfaces still have their place, but can often date a design or force it to feel more contemporary than the rest of the aesthetic.

How to Successfully Add Reeded Cabinetry in Your Next Design:

♥ Opt for a soft color palate: whites, greens, warm greys, or stains. Bolder colors may end up competing with the texture and overwhelming the overall design.

♥ Keep cabinet hardware simple: slim pulls and small k***s go a long way. Avoid chunky or funky here.

♥ Choose one focal area for the reeded finish, NOT the whole kitchen. Thoughtfully designating the added texture on your island, upper glass, or bases only will allow this layer to feel warm and inviting within the design, rather than overly repetitive and limiting.
