With the planet drastically heating up due to global warming wildlife need our help now more than ever to find water sources.

Finding a spot to bathe, cool down, or get a drink have become scarce during the extreme heat, between that and the lack of rainfall wildlife have been left struggling to survive.

How we can help!

1. Place bowls of water on your patio, in your grass, under a tree, or even in your rock beds. Wherever you can.

2. Place small pebbles and twigs that lead out of the bowls for insects to get in and out and have something to stand on while they drink. One for insects with pebbles and one without for larger animals is even better!

3. Any bowl is appreciated but terracotta is one of the best material to use because it helps keep the water cooler, is non-toxic, and has a rougher texture animals can use to hold on to better.

4. Place water bowls in shaded areas if possible and check them daily.

Things like this might feel small to you but could be life changing to the birds, raccoons, possums, bunnies, squirrels, deer, stray cats or dogs, insects and all other wildlife that may wander through your backyard.

Shopping small means more than you know to a small business owner!!!

I have loved every second of getting to be a part of the farmers market community this season. I’ve gotten to meet so many incredible and interesting people and I’m sad to see it start to come to a close for the year! 🥺

I only have 4 more Thursdays left at the Valley Junction Farmers Market and 6 Saturdays left at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market.

So if you have been wanting to go now’s the time! I will have a small restock on sweaters and t-shirts happening between September 15-18! Make sure to mark your calendars and turn your notifications on to be the first to see some of my new designs and be the first to grab restocked favorites!

Yes, but…

Seeing beauty in all of the creatures that share this Earth with us is about more than simply being able to recognize something as beautiful. It’s about having compassion, appreciation, curiosity, and understanding for all animals and not just the ones you find cuter than others.

It’s about looking beyond what we already know, stepping outside of our own perceptions, and realizing there is often so much more to see than what first meets the eye.

Every animal has a story, a purpose, and something worth noticing. Sometimes, we just need someone to help us see it.

These are photographs I’ve taken of animals I’ve had the privilege of getting to witness first hand over the years. The edits were intentional, yet they were not meant to change the animal but to simply help enhance the details that already make it captivating in its own way.

And honestly, that’s a big part of why I created the Wondering Wildlife Mail Club.

I wanted to create something that encourages people to look a little closer at the wildlife around them, including the creatures they might not immediately think of as beautiful. Because sometimes the animals we overlook are the ones with the most fascinating stories to tell.

Each month, I choose a different creature to learn about and appreciate through my original art and a letter.

July was frogs.
August was brown bears.
September is octopus.
And October… well you’ll have to wait and see!!!
