Leather patina is the desirable, natural transformation that occurs over time on high-quality leather, resulting in a richer color, deeper sheen, and unique, smooth texture. It’s a gradual process caused by exposure to sunlight, oils from your hands, moisture, and other environmental factors, creating a personalized “fingerprint” that adds character and value to leather goods.
How Patina Forms
Absorption:
The pores of full-grain leather absorb oils from your hands, dust, and moisture from the air.
Oxidation:
Sunlight oxidizes the leather, a process that causes the color to deepen and become richer.
Wear and Tear:
Physical contact, minor scratches, and abrasions contribute to the surface changes and the formation of a unique texture.
