We are happy to announce that Elizabeth Hartmen will be joining us as a full-time employee beginning today, May 26th!

Elizabeth gained an appreciation for architecture and historic preservation throughout her life on road trips to a wide range of National (historical) Parks, monuments, and memorial sites, resonating with Kraemer Design Group’s work and overarching mission. Since joining KDG in 2024 as a student intern, Elizabeth has worked on a combination of hospitality, multifamily residential, workplace, and historic survey projects. As Elizabeth is nearing completion of her master’s degree from Lawrence Technological University, we look forward to her continuation with our team.

Her transition into a full-time role marks an exciting moment for both Elizabeth and KDG, and we are eager to see the contributions she will make in this next chapter!

Piquette Flats has earned the Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation!

This project of ours is another great example of adaptive reuse with the help of historic tax credits. The redevelopment of 411 Piquette Avenue has brought significant positive change to the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood. By transforming a long-quiet building—previously used only for document storage—into a vibrant residential community with 161 dwelling units, the project has reactivated a key historic site and introduced new energy to the area. The addition of workforce housing, with rents set below 100% of the area median income, directly addresses Detroit’s pressing need for affordable living options. This thoughtful approach not only preserves the building’s architectural legacy but also supports the city’s workforce, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic neighborhood.

Exploring the future of hospitality design at the IHG Design Immersion in Atlanta. ✨

Jennifer Elmore and Jennifer Dwyer spent two inspiring days at IHG HQ diving into brand standards, design innovation, sustainability, and emerging guest expectations- plus touring model guestrooms across IHG’s diverse portfolio. We are grateful to the IHG team for an insightful, forward‑thinking experience that will directly inform our future hospitality projects.

What is more sustainable than adaptive reuse? 🌎

On Earth Day, we’re reminded that some of the most impactful sustainable design decisions are also the most timeless ones.

At Kraemer Design Group, sustainability starts with working smarter with what already exists. Adaptive reuse of abandoned and underutilized buildings preserves embodied energy, reduces construction waste, and minimizes the environmental cost of new materials. It allows us to build upon existing infrastructure while honoring the architectural heritage and urban fabric of our communities- especially here in Detroit.
KDG also brings hands-on experience achieving LEED certification on historic buildings, including 1201 Washington connected to Book Tower, demonstrating that high-performance sustainability and preservation can go hand in hand.

By reimagining historic and vacant structures for modern use, we reduce our carbon footprint, extend the life of materials already in place, and breathe new economic and cultural life into neighborhoods. It’s sustainability that goes beyond efficiency, it’s about stewardship, resilience, and thoughtful growth.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to continue advocating for adaptive reuse as one of the most meaningful and responsible ways to design for the future, by respecting the past.

30 Years | Hospitality

A historic American landmark, thoughtfully reintroduced. ✨

Originally built in 1931 by Henry Ford, Dearborn Inn has reopened following an extensive restoration, honoring its legacy as one of the country’s first airport hotels while delivering a contemporary hospitality experience rooted in craftsmanship and place.

KDG was proud to serve as Architect and a key design partner, from reimagined guestroom layouts and FF&E specifications to multidisciplinary project coordination. KDG collaborated closely with Ford Motor Company, Ford Land, PCI‑Dailey, Saguez & Dash, Peter Basso & Associates, Illuminart, Resurget, and the Marriott Autograph Collection brand team to thoughtfully carry the property’s historic legacy forward.

Intramode delivered comprehensive FF&E Procurement and Project Management, sourcing all guestroom and public‑area FF&E as well as OS&E. In collaboration with Marriott, Intramode curated a tailored OS&E program, managed global procurement, and coordinated seamless on‑site installation.

A testament to collaboration and craftsmanship- restored for generations to come.

We are thrilled to announce on 419 day that our latest projects are in the heart of downtown Toledo! The Spitzer Building and Nicholas Building are two historic office buildings at the Four Corners redevelopment where Madison Avenue meets N. Huron Street. RKP Group hired KDG as architect, interior designer, and historic consultant for these two remarkable high-rise buildings. Both have stood vacant for over twelve years and will be rehabilitated and converted into apartments over commercial space, bringing back these architectural gems!
