Halloween is approaching and that means it’s time to carve pumpkins again… or maybe turnips! Did you know that Halloween is a Celtic celebration that dates back over 2,000 years to mark the end of the harvest season and start the darker half of the year? They used to carve turnips or beets and light them up with burning coal to scare away evil spirits 👻 It wasn’t until the mid-1800’s when Irish immigrants came to America that they found pumpkins to be much bigger and much easier to carve 🎃

These turnip carvings look far scarier than any pumpkins I’ve ever seen, and you can hang them up which makes them even more unique! I’m delighted to announce that the children’s book I illustrated — An Alphabet Book for Little Blue Hawks, to commemorate Dickinson State University’s 100th year of football — is officially released! The hard work paid off and it made me realize- this is it, it happened, I’m living my dream!

This is a great collectible for alums, and a way to get kids more involved and educated about football. KFYR News was kind enough to feature the book last week, it was fun sitting down and being able to share our experience creating the book and what we hope it accomplishes. I’ll be at the Biesiot Activities Center signing copies along with one of the authors, the wonderful Dr. Dragseth, during DSU Homecoming this Saturday, October 11th. Come say hi, grab a signed book for your little (or not-so-little) fans, enjoy the game, and help us celebrate a century of DSU football 🎨🏈✍️

The lovely Barbara was kind enough to take a video of the Alice in Wonderland little library that is now filled with books at Searching for Sunshine in the St. Joe’s Plaza here in Dickinson! This makes my heart so happy 🗝️🫖🍄

It was an honor to get to paint these sweet pups, Max and Coco. I feel like you form a bond with an animal in the time it takes to paint them. You establish a connection even If you’ve never met them, and that’s very special to me and find it helpful in the creative process 🎾 🫶

Someone had a little free library they wanted painted Alice in Wonderland style, and I jumped at the chance to do it! Hoping this will bring many children joy and inspire them to read the classic tale 🍄🫖❤️

These aren’t just canvases, they are book pages!! All of the pieces are finalized but this is all I can show you.. for now 😀 Very excited for the new steps in this process and to be able to show you ❤️

I will be starting commissions again next week, starting off with the entire Brady Bunch family depicted as hippos- there’s a sentence I thought I’d never say 🤣🦛
