Building Information Modeling (BIM), is a process supported by various tools to generate and manage a digital model of physical and functional characteristics of a project.
Dash Door & Glass contributed the exterior glass storefront and curtainwall objects to a BIM model assembled by the architect, GC and specialty trade partners on a recent project.
The result shown here is a model that facilitated accurate dimensional / detailing coordination, procurement, and fabrication.

Architectural decorative glass has a wide range of uses and price points across the endless finish options. For instance, at a reception area, back-lit laminated architectural glass can be used to lend a different mood. When compared to post-installed privacy films, architectural glass offers a more even distribution of light with more creative freedom in terms of available opacity levels, colors, and textured patterns. Typical medical projects used to require the general contractor to retain a separate automatic door company just for the installation of ICU sliding doors like those shown here.
This is no longer the case; our Automatic Door Group collaborates within our single contract, skipping the need for GCs to retain yet another specialty contractor by including these ICU doors within a coordinated Division 8 scope of Contract Door & Hardware, Glass & Glazing and Automatic Doors.

When it comes to high balconies, fires and hurricanes bring up a serious challenge. On one side, a balcony is too high to jump from; the only way to get to safety in case of a fire is through the inside of the building, requiring an in-swing panic door. However, if a hurricane hits, there is a great danger to the building and occupants if flying debris pushes the panic door open.

The solution to this challenge comes in the form of Enviralum Industries's ENV-350 Panic-Guard®, which allows a door to open inward in the case of a fire, while also making sure the door does not open during a hurricane event.
