With the abundance of photo strip stained glass frames that have flooded social media (and my DMs) lately, I wanted to do something different that felt a bit more my style. This design is based on a vintage polaroid camera, and it's made with stringer, modeling clay, and glass. It's a wall hanging, and you can change the polaroid photo at any time without hassle. My new favorite frame? Yea, you could say that.
It must be noted that this design has lots of small and skinny pieces since it needed to be true to size for polaroids. I may change the design slightly because of that, and since the piece also has fused elements, I might try fusing some of the smaller/thinner pieces together so there are less of them to deal with when the time comes for foiling and soldering. This piece would have been incredibly tedious and annoying to grind had I not used my flat lap grinder from for all those straight edges and tiny pieces! It is truly the workhorse of my studio! (This isn't and ad for them, I just love their product and want to spread the word lol)
The last thing I want to note is that this piece is full of unavoidable hinge joints. I'm always about keeping my pieces structurally sound, and so it has a generous amount of copper restrip and wire embedded in the solder to hold it all together. ⬅️SWIPE to see some other angles on a white backdrop, what the back looks like, and my first attempt at the top half of the camera 🫠
Bonus: all these pictures of my Caccippio family 🥰
