A lot of jobsite walk-offs aren’t caused by impossible conditions. They happen because the installer runs into something unexpected and doesn’t know what the next step should be.
That’s where standards, professionalism, training, and documentation matter.
An installer should know how to identify the condition, measure it, compare it to the manufacturer and industry requirements, document it, and determine whether it is:
• Within tolerance
• Correctable with proper prep
• Something that needs approval
• Or truly a stop-work condition
Not every crack is a disaster. Not every low spot means the job is dead. Not every unexpected condition should turn into a cancellation.
The goal should be to train installers to diagnose before they react.
When we do that well, everybody wins: the installer feels more confident, the customer gets clear answers, the company avoids unnecessary cancellations, and the finished installation is still protected.
Knowing how to install the floor is important.
Knowing why, when, and how to move forward when something changes is craftsmanship.
