Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from soybeans. The majority of the world's soybeans come from the Midwestern United States. From the soybeans, the oil is extracted. Hydrogenating the oil lowers the melting point, making it solid at room temperature and suitable for candle use. Other waxes, such as paraffin wax (the most common to wax used to make candles-such as what you would find the "big box" s
tores) comes from petroleum, coal, or oil shale. It is cheaper and more available than soy wax because it is a by-product of petroleum. Soy wax, a vegetable-based wax made from a bean is therefore much more environmentally friendly and healthier for you to burn in your home than a petroleum-based biproduct. Soy wax also burns slower than paraffin wax, so our candles last noticeably longer. There is also significantly less soot.
