We're thrilled to start working with Grabie! They're focusing on art supplies that support mental health (via art therapy and the Grabie Art Fund) and making sure that as many people as possible have access to art supplies that they would not otherwise have, not just to professionals - "because we all deserve to embrace our inner artist!"

The work is the reward

Most people aren't professional artists. Odds are, you aren't. Which means that you don't HAVE to create something. That can mean that it's easy to give up or put it off for something "more important".

If you do have to make in some way for work, then creativity can become a fragile thing. It can rely on other people noticing and liking it for validation.

As a creative person, don't forget to make just for you. Revel in the process. Play with the materials and supplies. Enjoy the outcome (whatever that may happen to be). Take joy in the doing of something, just because you want to.

Creating helps me feel more like myself. Maybe you're similar. Become more you. The world needs your art!

In custom framing, details matter!

Behind the Frame:

These heron paintings came from a magazine painting demo: the top image is the in-progress version, and the bottom is the finished piece.

Both were dry-mounted, meaning the paper was adhered to a sturdy backing board, but with one important difference - the top has white foam core behind it, while the bottom has black.

In the detail image, you can see how the writing on the back of the magazine page shows through with the white backing. The black backing helps hide that distraction and lets the finished heron shine.

These are the quiet little details that go into custom framing - things you may never need to think about, because we’re already thinking about them for you.

We were able to snag a great deal on these Carbothello pastel pencil sets, so we're passing that on to you. While they should be $150, they're available at half of that. (With the usual caveat of "while supplies last", of course.)

Work in Progress

We're all a work in progress. Sometimes that process is a mess...

I recently saw this quote, "It’s fine if I suck sometimes," by Sarah Hussain and I started thinking about growth and learning. Not in a self-development, "I'm working on myself," kind of way. More like a butterfly going through the different stages of development as it becomes the full version of itself.

Growth, development, learning - these things only seem like a straight, smooth line in hindsight, or when looking externally at someone else. When we're living the process, it's twisted and gnarly and confusing.

We're creative. We make things. Our lives are what we're making most of all. The fullest version of you isn't the "best" version, polished and perfect. It's the most alive version. The honest, becoming, sometimes-sucking version.

You are your greatest creation. And the world needs your art!
