(Most of) that pallet of Crystorama lighting is on its way home today.

Alfred supervised the Tetris-like organization of boxes and was navigator for our trip to Chicagoland.

We ran into traffic, of course, but Alfred was enjoying the people watching.

Photo shoot day with a sneak peek of one of our latest projects!

This has been another crazy year and we’re finally starting to get caught up with project pictures and updates so we’ll (hopefully) be posting those a little more regularly again in the next week or so.

Things do not seem to be slowing down much and we have a few projects on the books already for next year so we’re definitely looking forward to finishing out this year strong to another productive year coming up!

You know that you have some indecisive clients when you go in to grab wallpaper books from your supplier and the woman working looks at you and says - ‘again?!’ - when she sees you checking out the same books yet again. Haha

I’ll do whatever it takes to help clients feel confident In their decisions, and wallpaper is a commitment so that decision can take time.

It has been a busy summer here, we have some photos coming of some great projects very soon!

It has been a busy couple of months this year and we have a few projects in the works already and we’ve been slacking on social media for sure.

Part of the reason for that is this guy - meet Alfred, the adorable new guy here at FB&T!

Alfred joined the family in January and is well on his way to being the perfect office puppy. He was able to go on his first “install day” a couple weeks ago and he did great! Although I think he did get a little bored toward the end....haha.

The goal is to get Alfred trained so that he can join me on many of our projects and meetings with clients and he’s doing a great job so far!

I hope that you’re all having a wonderful Thanksgiving! It may be a little different for most of us this year, but hopefully we’re all able to celebrate in our own way safely.
I’m very thankful for all of my great clients that put their trust in me to transform their homes into spaces they love.

That moment of mild freak out when you are working on a client project and can’t figure out why you have two completely different pieces of hardware for the bathroom vanities.
And then you realize that you aren’t crazy - you ordered two sets because you weren’t sure which one would look best.
These two k**b & backplate combos were chosen because I knew that I needed to cover up existing holes in the new vanities - it was impossible to find new hardware that had the same double screw layout.
I ended up going with the smaller version of k**b & backplate from Top K***s in champagne bronze.

The right light fixtures can make a huge difference.

When I was asked to take over a project from another designer, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into! But I knew that one of the first big changes that we needed to make was to up the lighting game for this home.

This project is a custom executive home that was built in the 80’s and hadn’t been touched since. The home has stood the test of time because of quality material choices, but it was in desperate need of a refresh.

Updating the exterior lighting made a HUGE difference.....the fixtures near the (new) front door were new, but they didn’t really fit the style of the home, nor did they match the original fixtures on the garage.

The new lighting fits the contemporary style of the home perfectly. Where the old fixtures blended right in with the brick, these fixtures by Brian Patrick Flynn from Crystorama give it a nice POP when you pull up to the home - and they let you know that you’re in for something special.

Good design is all about the details. Finding specialty items like hardware and trim is always one of my favorite parts of planning a renovation project - I like to find those products that you’re not going to see in every other house you walk into. The farmhouse project in Leslie is a great example of what you can do if you take the extra time to find something unique.

The homeowners wanted the new addition to blend as seamlessly as possible with the original parts of the home - while staying within budget.

I was able to find vintage looking door hardware with glass k**bs and large backplates and hinges with decorative hinge pin tips that were a very close match with those in the rest of the house. The great thing about this hardware - it was designed for modern doors without any fussy installation.

The original door & window trim in the home has a lot of design elements that you don’t see in modern construction. We were able to replicate the design pretty closely by using plinth blocks (the base piece that the door casing sits on), fluted casing trim and rosettes for the corners.

Another great detail was finding vintage looking cast metal HVAC floor covers. They are new, but replicate the patterns that were found in floor grates in homes over the last 100+ years.

By taking a little extra time and a minimal increase in cost, I was able to give the homeowners the vintage look that they were hoping for without losing focus on the budget.

The exterior of the project in Leslie has definitely seen some significant changes - from the huge addition on the back to all new siding, windows and metal roofing.

Originally we had decided to go with all white siding and trim, at the last minute we made the change to this beautiful blue with white scallop and gingerbread trim. It was a great choice and definitely updated the home, and made it stand out.

The huge new deck around the addition is a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views that surround this home.

These fantastic updates will allow the homeowners to enjoy their home for many years to come without worrying about exterior maintenance.

This project was a large undertaking, consisting of three main goals -

1. Update & enlarge the existing kitchen space.
2. Add space for - a new dining room, full bath for the main floor and finally, a small den.
3. New siding, roofing and a large deck.

These photos show the space that we added. The home originally had a 3 season porch that ran across the back side. This was removed and a large new addition that is three times the size went up in its place. We also added a couple windows 🤣 to take advantage of the beautiful views and capitalize on the natural light!

The new dining room features plenty of space to host large family meals with room to spare. One of the goals for this space was that it was large enough to hold a table for the whole family with room to walk around while everyone was seated. Even with a 7.5’ x 4’ custom table there is more than enough room to walk around it comfortably.

Speaking of tables - this one is a beauty! Custom made by 141 Design Company in Williamston with a beautiful white base and stained top. The chairs are Amish made and the most comfortable wood dining chairs ever.

The custom floating shelves are also by 141 Design Company and are stained to match the table.

In typical 1800’s form, this house was without a bathroom on the first floor. We added a full bath with a 4’ shower and a great horizontal window placed high to bring in lots of light while providing privacy.

The den is a very cozy place to hang out with the family or catch up on some tv while relaxing on the sectional that was made especially for this space.

Stay tuned for the last reveal - the exterior! @ Leslie, Michigan
