From 1900 to the 1920s, knitting was part of daily life — taught in schools, community halls, and homes.
When WWI began in 1914, the Red Cross launched nationwide knitting drives.
Women produced over 15 million pairs of socks and countless sweaters, balaclavas, and blankets for soldiers in freezing trenches.

In military hospitals, injured soldiers were encouraged to knit as a form of therapy.
It kept their hands busy, calmed their minds, and gave them a way to help others.

Knitting wasn’t a pastime — it was service, solidarity, and survival.

Today, sweaters roll out of machines in minutes.
But a century ago, warmth came from someone’s hands.

Every stitch carried a story.
Do we still remember that?
