Why do I love putting ski chairs inside? I'm not sure...maybe it's because I would be inclined to "use" them more if they were in warmer locations! All joking aside, I love that we were able to do this one in a color of our choice and make it moderately comfortable for use while changing one's footwear. Happy upcoming weekend - may we all get outside for some fresh air!

When I think of the core design principles at play in this grand fireplace, several come to mind: balance, texture, scale, and contrast, to name just a few. Our mix of various stone and wood textures creates a sense of rugged luxury. Its purpose as a cozy yet strong room divider was effective in subdividing the space while still offering beautiful mountain views.

Rugged and refined materials meet to make this kitchen both industrial and warm at the same time. The vantage point into the Butler's Pantry, with its classic cream cabinets, is a great study in contrast as well. This was truly a workhorse beauty of a kitchen — as pretty today as when we did it more than a decade ago. Who knew?

When in doubt about how to add some life to a room with a quiet color atmosphere, just pop it with fun bedding. It’s easy to swap later, if and when one’s taste for patterns changes. Ditto on a few colorful lamps and some classically elegant drapery for softness. Now, I’m on the hunt for another pattern on the walls! Complimentary...of course.

If I had to name this kitchen, it would be something relating to “Moody Blues”. We didn’t have the luxury of starting from scratch on this one, so we had to be judicious about color selection for the redo, hardware selection, accessories, and, of course, had to add some luxury via the bespoke backsplash tile. All the elements combined to form a simple, cohesive, and slightly moody space with a good amount of character. May we all embrace peaceful experiences in our kitchen as the holidays approach us!

This staircase is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can elevate an everyday transition space into a true architectural moment. The before photos of this residence would be unrecognizable. Heavy woods, poorly colored solar shades, big stair railings...I could go on. But this client’s amazing existing art collection and their ability to take some color and style risks allowed a completely successful transformation, as witnessed here. The entire house is now light, airy, and fresh, without losing the mountainous appeal of warm woods and steel and lush fabrics.
