Agate, labradorite, turquoise, abalone shell, citrine, obsidian, and shelves of minerals you’ve never heard of — all under one roof in El Paso. Every piece is natural and hand-picked, from desert turquoise with real matrix veining to labradorite that flashes blue when you tilt it to obsidian pulled straight from volcanic glass. Whether you collect, decorate, or just need something to hold onto, come get lost for an hour. We’ll tell you what it is and where it came from.

From ordinary dirt to a pocket of amethyst.

This geode is a great example of how volcanic rock can become a natural crystal specimen over millions of years. Geodes begin as gas bubbles or cavities trapped inside volcanic rock. After the surrounding rock hardens, mineral-rich groundwater can move through tiny cracks and openings, carrying dissolved silica into the empty space.

As the fluids slowly evaporate and conditions change, quartz begins to crystallize along the walls of the cavity. Layer by layer, microscopic quartz growth eventually develops into the crystals we see today.

The purple coloration of amethyst is caused by trace amounts of iron incorporated into the quartz crystal structure, combined with natural irradiation and specific chemical conditions during formation. Not all quartz becomes amethyst — the right combination of chemistry, temperature, radiation, and time is required.

This specimen shows a dark volcanic outer rind surrounding a cavity filled with clear quartz and pale purple amethyst, with crystals growing inward toward the center. The contrast between the rough exterior and the crystalline interior is what makes geodes so fascinating.

What appears to be an ordinary rock buried in sand or dirt can actually be a mineral environment that has been forming for millions of years.

Spin the wheel, crack the geode 🔨✨

These wonderful ladies stopped by the gallery today and took a spin on the wheel, and this beauty filmed in the museum was the prize: a Trancas geode from Chihuahua, Mexico.

Trancas geodes are famous for their one-of-a-kind crystal formations, and no two are ever alike. Most of them also have a secret talent: they glow under the right UV light. So this one didn’t just get cracked open, it got lit up too.

Watch the moment it splits, and tell us in the comments: what you think.

Gosia picked the winner today 💎 She chose a 6–7” Las Choyas coconut geode from the Crystal Gallery and we cracked it open right there in the museum. Inside: light amethyst, banded agate, and little hematite specks catching the light. Absolutely stunning.

Fun fact: the crack hit so hard it knocked over our close-up camera 😂 Then we hit it with a black light to check for fluorescence and the entire group went “DUDE!” in unison.

Shoutout to the crew: Ezra, Anny, Philip, Aria, Marc Eli, and Marc. What a day.

Go follow Gosia on TikTok for more of her adventures 🔮
