Ella is currently studying Jewelry and Metalsmithing at the University of UTEP and is spending the summer developing new skills, exploring ideas, and creating original work in our studio

Artist Talk with Melissa “Domino” Dominguez
Free Event — June 4th, 7 pm

Join us for an introduction to the work and artistic journey of our current Artist in Residence

Melissa Dominguez (Domino) is a multidisciplinary surrealist artist from Ciudad Juárez whose work spans painting, collage, fashion, tattooing, and mixed media. In 2025, she presented a solo retrospective at the Museum of History and Archaeology in Ciudad Juárez featuring more than 75 works created between 2008 and 2025

During this conversation, Domino will speak about her artistic evolution, life between borders, and her current experience exploring ceramics during her residency at Cantareras

This summer, Cantareras welcomes multidisciplinary artist Melissa Dominguez, also known as Domino, as our current Artist in Residence

Originally from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and currently working between Los Angeles and the El Paso–Juárez border, Domino’s practice moves across painting, collage, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, tattooing, fashion, and mixed media

Her work often reflects the contradictions of growing up between two cultures, personal experiences, and spontaneous imagery that emerges through improvisation and intuition

She is also widely recognized for her work within the music scene, creating flyers, album covers, posters, and merchandise for rock bands, a space where her artistic career first began

For the past month and a half, Domino has been working inside the Cantareras studio exploring ceramics as a new medium within her practice through experimentation, process, and material research

Throughout the residency, we will continue sharing her work, upcoming workshops, and final exhibition
