New Old-Growth Redwood Platter — with a Special Story Behind It.

This piece means a lot to me.
The wood came from true old-growth Coastal Redwood, milled by our father in Point Arena, CA back in the 1950s. The tree itself was likely over 250 years old before it ever touched a saw blade.

I turned a piece of that raw slab into a 10.5" platter, finished with Pita’s True Grit to bring out the warmth, depth, and history locked in every ring.

Just finished this Plum Wood + Bronzed Amber Pearl Resin Serving Board - plum wood from the Sacramento Valley set in a shimmering bronze/amber epoxy with faux branch handles.
Glass-like finish, 13” x 18” x 1”, and totally one-of-a-kind.

Just finished this premium Black Walnut and Epoxy Blanton’s Board featuring the full set of Blanton’s bottle stoppers (“B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S”). Each stopper is embedded in black epoxy and sealed under a crystal-clear flood coat for depth and shine.

This slab is live-edge Black Walnut, finished at 1.5 inches thick for presence and stability. Chamfered edges, finger grooves underneath, and clear rubber feet complete the piece.

It took many days of hands-on work (plus multiple resin curing cycles), but I’m really proud of how this one came out.

If you’re a bourbon lover — or know one — this is a seriously fun and unique display piece.

So thankful to my lifelong friend Jeff Johnston of Johnston Redwood and Johnston Ranch for gifting me what appeared at a glance to just be an old useless chunk of wood. It is truly amazing and fascinating the wonders that lie in the most mundane pieces of wood and creating something to enjoy!

Fought this piece of Cherry wood the whole way. Tried to save it with some epoxy in the cracks and soft spots. I'll just take this as some practice time. There are times when it just needs to be fire wood. LOL
