❤️ I am very grateful for this tribute today by EC250. A Memorial Fund is being established in my mother’s memory to continue to benefit historic preservation projects on the Historic District through HEC, Inc. In celebration of March as Women's History Month today we honor one of Ellicott City's earliest preservationist Ms. Enalee Bounds on the one-year anniversary of her passing on March 12, 2021.

Enalee grew up in Catonsville but ultimately found her life’s calling in Ellicott City’s first full-time antique shop that she opened with her mother and sister on Main Street in 1962. For the next fifty years Ellicott's Country Store operated under her loving guidance.

A founding member of Historic Ellicott City Inc., she served as its President, on its Board and as editor of the organization's "Heritage" newsletter for 15 years. She also began the long-popular series of annual Howard County Decorator Showhouses to raise funds for historic preservation.

Enalee was a key player in the restoration of the B&O Railroad Station and was also heavily involved in the restoration and prominent relocation of the Merryman Street Log Cabin. She worked alongside her husband Roland to have Ellicott City designated as a Historic District thus providing significant historical protections for the entire town.

My Design Competition BEFORE & AFTERs for Historic Ellicott City, Inc.'s "Show Your House" Series, May 20, 2021 (To see the full livestream segment with both designers go to: https://historicec.com/ and scroll down for the May series.)

KITCHEN:
"My design for the new family kitchen started with a 4 foot extension of the kitchen providing a great view of the wooded backyard, more natural light, and an island with a downdraft range. This gave the cook a view of the entire space and more storage. Patterned tile backsplash updated the design and introduced fun geometric shapes repeated in lighting. Ambient lighting was added in cabinetry and wall sconces. Plays with texture were used in the island with a textured crossbuck wooden finish and the window treatments. Cool and warm hues are brought together in an updated but color scheme.

DINING AREA & FAMILY ROOM:
Out-swing patio doors were the first new element that I introduced. They provided more space and eased the traffic pattern for this busy family. The range was relocated in the island with a downdraft and the TV was relocated over the mantle giving everyone a view of the action including the cook! Storage was added with tall built-in cabinets flanking the fireplace and
the crossbuck design on the cabinet doors was repeated on the
ends of the kitchen island connecting the spaces. A white louvered
serving chest provided storage for table linens and barware. Beams were added to the ceiling giving needed horizontality to the open spaces and incorporated the textured finish of the kitchen island. Bold rattan swivel chairs and carved mirror contrast with the smooth painted furnishings for casual, easy, entertaining.
