It's National Honey Bee Day today! Let’s celebrate and show our appreciation for the hardworking honeybees, that work so hard to produce honey after pollinating so many fruits and vegetables. This day was first established in 2009 for beekeepers, as a way to promote honey and to encourage educational programs, but this is too special a day to limit to the beekeepers.

Here's a little tidbit that you probably didn't know; to get a pound of honey, honey bees need to gather nectar from two million flowers. A single bee will gather just a 1/2 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. After all of this hard work, honeybees deserve this special day of recognition!

Here are some ways to enjoy National Honey Bee Day:

Have some honey today, while learning more about bees as pollinators.
Do your part to protect honey bee hives and populations.
If you are in a rural area, consider maintaining hives of your own.

Experienced gardeners know that zucchini is one of the most prolific plants in all of the gardening world. A single plant produces a seemingly endless supply of fruit. A small row of zucchini plants has the potential to end world hunger.

By now, those who grow zucchini will have an endless supply that they have no way of using. Even after using them for every meal, dessert or snack that can be thought of.
Zucchini growers become desperate, as they try to give zucchini away to family, friends, and everyone they encounter. Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. Here are some ideas on how to have fun with this day:

As the title of this holiday suggests, stealthily deposit some of your fresh garden zucchini on your neighbor’s porch or front step.
You can also make some zucchini bread or another dessert or snack to leave on their porch.

We are astounded by the public outpouring of support and concern for the events of the last few days. As of this morning, the gentleman's family has come forward and taken care of the situation. This was not the act of a bad man, just someone who was very confused. We thank you all deeply for reaching out to the community and helping get to the bottom of this and ask for empathy and patience with all parties involved.

We are lucky to have such a caring and outspoken community, thank you all.
