We aren't JUST knitting hats! Right?
Many of us are doing so much more.
The red hat is just something you can see that we are doing.
I don't post about every phone call I make, or every email that I send, or every card I put in the mailbox, or every dollar I spend on business that support the resistance, or every dollar I donate, or every person I encourage to join us in doing the work, or the the community involvement with crafting groups, and so much more.
Am I outraged by the recent deaths of Keith Porter, Renee Good, and Alex Pretti.... You bet I am. But I've been outraged a lot longer than that.....
However, my husband and I are both nurses. I am a nurse educator and it is my job to prepare baby nurses to go out into the world and do good.... To ask people - "ARE YOU OK?" these were Alex Pretti's last words. So when a nurse is killed for protecting someone... We continue to show up.
My husband JP is a Mental health nurse, so when he asked me to make him a red hat.... I dropped all of my other wips and quickly knit him a hat so he could wear it to this vigil for Alex Pretti. Thanks to our friends that joined us in support last night.
(photo courtesy of the Oregon Nurses Association and I was glad that you can see him standing proudly in his red hat)
Remember.... It's more than just red hats. But if that's what you can do, and it soothes you to knit a hat... Then knit a damn hat and wear it to show you stand with the resistance... But be sure to keep doing all the other things too.
Take care of yourself. Take care of your neighbors and keep asking people if they are OK.
