Most people don’t realize…
Cajun culture didn’t start in Louisiana.
It started in Canada. 🇨🇦
In the 1600s, French settlers called Acadians built farming communities in Nova Scotia.
Then in 1755, the British forced them out of their homes in what’s known as Le Grand Dérangement (The Great Expulsion). Families were separated. Homes burned. Lives uprooted.
Some of those Acadians made their way down to the swamps and prairies of South Louisiana.
Acadian eventually became… Cajun.
And down here?
They adapted.
They learned the bayous.
Blended cultures.
Kept their faith.
Held tight to family.
Made music.
Made gumbo.
They were even punished in schools for speaking French at one point — but the culture survived anyway.
That’s why Cajun culture hits different.
It was born from resilience.
Seasoned with struggle.
And served with joy.
We’re not just spicy food and funny accents.
We’re history that refused to disappear.
